I've been needlepointing sporadically since 1974. Took a project with me to soccer + football games, Mardi Gras, doctors appt., 2 hospital stays --but never to the grocery store. When I'd travel, would rather visit needlepoint store than a mall.
Past 3 years while husband home bound requiring 24 hr supervision. picked up number of projects completed. My needlepoint shop does the finishing and started posting finished projects on their website + Instagram. Several of mine have been featured. Here's few selections:
I've won a few prizes in contests at the shop. This contest was a square with outline of trees and water that I turned into picnic scene triggered by my parents Pocono Mountain home which was across from a lake. Marcie, shop owner suggested I turn it into a travel bag.
Needle case:
Nutcracker to add to my sons collection.
Loved stitching this for my SIL who ran a Doggie Day Care location.
Any other needle artists out there?

One of the regulars on the 'blue' does needle art and I'm envious. I can crochet but that's it. I'd like to learn to crochet doilies & lacey like things. I'd like to learn how to tat also.

My wife is trying this - made christmas present buying very easy this year. In UK the picture types are called cross stitch. The girls I used to work with went through a stage of doing this and every night shift you would find random bits of wool and thread lying around.

Thank you so very much for sharing your art with us, Karen! You truly are a gifted artist!
Doing art passes the time in such an enjoyable way, and given your situation in providing 24 hour care for your husband, I'm sure it's very therapeutic for you both.
I will show your pics to Belinda- she loves your kind of style. Belinda knits and crochets.
Congratulations for winning the prizes. You obviously deserve accolades!
I have a friend, Jenn Vicious, on the comic website who does a type of needlepoint that you may find interesting:
Karen, thanks again for exhibiting your art, and please: Keep on keeping on!

Cross stitch is different from needlepoint -- takes more time and patience. I'm no longer able to do such tiny stitches.

I could to that type straight stitch on a newspaper fabric background--given me an idea to try. Would be the reverse of this piece:

Thank you Karen, I've never really heard of needlepoint in the UK, it is always cross stitch. Don't quote me on that though as I am quite possibly wrong. It is really not my area of expertise. ? I try to build period ships as a hobby. Cos I'm a man and men don't do stitching and needle stuff. ?? (Yes I know how that sounds.?)

I’ve frequently heard of men who knit, so some like those activities. My mom tried to teach me embroidery and crochet when I was a girl, but the endeavors did not go far. I did do sewing for awhile after learning the basics in home ec class at school. Made my entire wardrobe for my sophomore year. Couldn’t go further because of buttonholes. Back then there were no automatic buttonhole attachments or stitches on the machines. Or at least my mom’s machine did not have any. Sewing was kind of fun as I recall.

Yes, me too (no #).
I too was taught to knit and sew at school which wasn't too bad for the 1960's. Basic stuff, but it served it's purpose. Nowadays I can replace a button but that is about it.
The late, great football player, Rosey Grier, could crochet. And he was PROUD of it - would appear on TV shows like Johnny Carson and do some crocheting right there on screen. He was one big hulk of a football dude!Nobody argued with him!
My Dad could run a sewing machine really well. Nothing special, but if it were a straight seam to be fixed, he'd just whip out the sewing machine and repair it! My Grandma taught him good!! He could sew, cook & clean. He & his brother.
My sister has all the special artistic art skills. I was passed over!
