Need Some Advice

Tell you husband to get a job, any job to help you out, which may be easier said than done. You're the one sacrificing working full time and going to school full time. You're the one with the dreams and goals. Follow your dream and your heart.

Ask your his support and committment to your goals (both emotionally and financially).

If there is a waiting list then getting your ASN is probably going to take just as long as the BSN anyway.

If your heart is set on a BSN, then that is what will satisfy you and nothing else! Life is too short not to be able to have our hearts desire. Look into financial aid, make hubby get a job (or get a new hubby or no hubby). I worked full time going to school - it was hard but you have to do what you have to do. Good luck!

i noticed you're living in auburn. i live in mobile and i'm going to the university of south alabama. pay is better in mobile than auburn.. significantly. there are lots of major hospitals, 3 owned by the university, lots of jobs, and south is a great school.. they are in the 98th percentile for students passing the NCLEX. i would advise you to go for your BSN - you won't regret it. if you ever want to be an NP (like you mentioned), you'll need it. and if you ever think about the possibility of moving, mobile would be a great alternative to auburn, plus we're by the beach.. can't beat that! :)

Your husband needs to find a full-time job doing anything.....especially it is expected that you'll be the major breadwinner, as it seems you will be. You need his support, both financially and emotionally, if you are going to school. Never mind the diploma...go right for your BSN!

P.S. I'm a diploma graduate and haven't regretted not getting a BSN. It all depends on what you want to see yourself doing in the nursing profession....a diploma school is THE BEST if your goal is bedside nursing.....no other program can give you the clinical experience you need! But if management, adminstration, teaching are your goals then stick to your guns and go for BSN.

Hey, I need some ADVICE!!!

I became a nurse because I wanted to be a Nurse practitioner at least an RN work in critical areas of nursing.

My husband doesn't work now and just makes money here and there no sure thing. I am going to school full time and working full time. Well, my husband thinks I should just get my ASN (which there probably is a wating list at) because it is quicker and right now I don't make enough money.

But, my heart is set on my BSN at Auburn and that is what I want to do even if it takes 1/2 a year or longer to complete.

If your reason for becoming a nurse was to be a NP, then absolutely, go for it, go get your BSN. If that is truly where your heart is, nothing else will suffice. You're young now, go for your dream! Don't look back in 20 yrs and regret that you didn't go for it.

As far as your husband pushing you to get your ADN because, "it's quicker" and YOU, "don't make enough money." (I'm biting my tongue here!) Why doesn't your husband go out and get a fulltime job so HE, makes "enough money," and contributes to the household income on a regular, consistent basis?

I commend you for working full time and going to school full time, that's not an easy task. Good Luck, whichever way you choose to go. :)

I think you should get the BSN.

I also agree with everyone else, your husband needs to get a job, if he can't find a full time job he can always join the navy or some other branch of the armed services.

Maybe you should show him this thread.

My advice would be to always get the best education you can afford. You will never regret additional schooling.

Also, seriously(!) contemplate your relationship with your husband. It's hard enough to go to school full time on your own. When you are married, you need (and should have) your spouses full support, both emotionally & financially. He needs a full-time job (or to enlist in the military as another poster suggested) & a better attitude.
