I have a essay due for my nursing class, and I have to write a 4 page paper about Norco ( acetaminophen + Hydrocodone). I've found very little information about Norco, especially to write a 4 page paper on it. Does anyone know of any journals or articles on Norco. I've googled but haven't found what I'm looking for. Any leads or information would be very helpful. Thanks!

I did the fast Google thing, and found info on drugs.com (basic, but there it is) and Waston Pharmaceuticals is the maker, so their website should provide something. Not sure what the heck you're supposed to say about an innocuous, not wildly popular painkiller...? There's not going to BE much in the way of medical journal articles, probably nothing in the way of nursing journal articles, since it's not a controversial drug. What exactly is the assignment, and can you approach it another way?

Try looking under Vicodin or Lorcet, same drug, more common names.

Thanks for the info. The assignment really sucks, they make us write an APA format essay every semester. Why they chose this specific medication is a mystery. Another mystery is how i will make a 4 page paper out of this. I know they want to see articles about it, but I have found nothing so far. But basically, they want an essay regarding the use of Norco over other drugs.

This is significant, I think. A comparison means that you can describe the pharmacology behind Norco as well as the pharmacology behind other analgesics. Compare the mechanisms of action, side effects, cost, sales information, safety, duration of action - for Norco and for a handful of other painkillers. You'll easily have four pages.

Well that what I inferred. I will check to be sure.

Perhaps you could get at least a page or two about the addiction part of this drug and the fact that many teenagers as well as adults are abusing it. I've heard that the latest trend with teenage parties is for the kids to gather up all of the drugs they can find at their homes, such as Norco/Vicodin, Xanax, Ativan, etc. Each kid brings the pills to the party, dump them into a bowl, and they all take a handful like candy. Scary stuff.

I feel your pain. I had to write five different APA papers on five drugs, plus make a power point, a poster and give a presentation. But at least we got to pick the drugs, they just picked the family. Good luck.

Hydrocodone and acetemenophen is a very common pain medication which is probably why they chose it.

Norco has less acetaminophen in it. 325 mg vs the 500 in Vicodin or Lortab.

I was going to bring up that point. You could write a little about the acetaminophen difference. That is the main reason we use norco instead of vicodin and other hospitals in my area have started doing the same.

Doesn't norco also have a stronger dose of hydrocodone than vicodin?
