I have two jobs right now. The first is fulltime as a nurse in a urology office. I make $14.49 an hour plus $200 per month bonus because I dont have their insurance. I work M-F 8-5. Overtime is NOT allowed under any circumstances. Most of the people I work with are older, have been there forever, and are very set in their ways. The doctor I work with is ok....but larely has some major attitude and disrespect issues. The second job is parttime in a LTC facility. I primarily work the skilled unit but sometimes float to other units as well. I only work on the weekends. I make $18.25 an hour. Here is the deal. The LTC is wanting me to come for them fulltime. They are going to 12-hour shifts in April....so I would only have to work three days a week. They do require every other weekend....and they will let you get as much overtime as you are willing to work. I am having a really hard time maing this decision. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Do you like the LTC facility? What is the environment like? Would you like working straight 12s? Would you like to get OT? Lots of questions to answer, so it's hard for us to give you an answer. What is your gut telling you?

"This job sucks!"
"This job does not!"
Which should I take?!
The fulltime job in the office is a decent job and I have been there over a year....but don't want to lose my nursing skills by being in an office for a long period of time. The LTC is a good facility...better than most with staffing, and some really good people. The facility itself is older but going thru a reconstructon\update and will be really nice when finished. I've worked 12 hours shifts before and actually liked it pretty good. I like both jobs ok...that's why its hard to decide what to do.

This seems like a no-brainer to me. If you like both jobs, why would you not pick the higher paying job?
Hours? Some people might prefer an 8-5 job, while others might prefer working 3 12s and getting 4 days off, depending on their home situation, whether they have kids, childcare to juggle, etc. Some people might not want to or be able to work weekends.
Which environment do you like better? Where do you *enjoy* working more?
I really enjoy working at LTC on the weekends...I am trying to figure out if it's because this is my "niche" or if it's because it's a "break" in my normal work week. As for the office job...I enjoy the schedule of the job more than I do the job itself...it's just convenient...

I cannot FATHOM why any nurse would leave an office gig for LTC.
If you need to make up the salary difference.. take 2 days a month somewhere.. .

It sounds like you already know what you need to do, you just need validation that you are making the right decision. That's what I love about these boards because we are here to high-five you and let you know that you ARE doing the right thing. Stick it to the urology place (eww on that anyways!). No job is worth being made to feel terrible about yourself and your performance. The LTC facility wants you there and that would be the job I would take, the one that makes you feel wanted and appreciated. :redbeathe:redpinkhe:redbeathe:redpinkhe:redbeathe:redpinkhe:redbeathe:redpinkhe:redbeathe

Do they offer PTO? If so, that may be a way to get a weekend back here and there. Access to overtime, higher pay, and working only three days is very enticing.
