Need Help!!! Having hard time Passing EC...Gotta be done by April!

Thanks to Georgia Board of Nursing cap of grandfathering the students from Excelsior College I have to be done with everything by April 2010. This includes: Life Span1, Life Span 3, Transition, Sociology, Micro, FCCA, and CPNE...doesn't seem Possible huh? I'm failed the Life Spans and transition twice already.

And I don't know which sociology course to take the Foundations of Gerontology or The Cultural Diveristy...I wanna take whichever will be easier...anyone got recommendations from experience? Like the one that took the least amount of studying possible?

If anyone has any advice I can use all the help I can get...Please?

It's not that I've been goofing off since May 2008. I've been waiting for the Georgia State Board to make decision whether or not they'd allow it and then I had to take time off due to diagnosis and treatment of Ovarian Cancer and now I'm cancer free. However, I don't want to complete the extra clinical hours that Georgia State wants.

Thanks in advance!

I'm going to say this straight up: I don't think you can finish by April. (You do mean April 2011, right?) If you had only the FCCA and the CPNE left, then maybe. But if you're having a difficult time passing the exams to begin with, and you have that many left ... factoring in the time it takes for EC to process things and schedule the CPNE, I just don't think your timeline is realistic. I'm sorry.

As far as sociology credits, I did the introductory sociology CLEP exam. It wasn't too hard. Granted, I over-study for everything. ;) CLEP info is here:

http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/clep/about.html

It's best to get CLEP tests approved in writing by EC before taking them.

I second Lunah. BUT, honestly if you got to the point where you weren't having trouble with the Exams, and could knock them out, I would day, you could do it if you buckle down.

I mean, if I were you I would review all of the only study material for anything that I failed, and for anything new I would use StudyGroup101. And on top of that I would go searching on the old Yahoo groups for the 100 things to know for each of the exams, and use the flashcards at flashcardexchange.com. And then really knock them out.

I mean I remember when I did 3 of the Nursing exams in one month back in April 2008. That is what makes me sure, if you had a gripe on the material you could blaze through.

I mean, I don't want you trying to attempt this, without have a good hold of the material only to fail. BUT, again if you can get a hold of the material, follow the above, and use the practice tests, to help. And skin over the practice test and 100 things to know before you go in to take the exam it MAY be possible.

But, whatever happens I wish you luck, and success.

Yes, 2011. Lol! Sorry. Thanks! Honestly, I think a lot of the trouble is I did try testing when I was still undergoing the end of my treatment so I was really stressed and OMG, there is such a thing as Chemo-brain!! Thanks Dream_Nurse, that gives me inspiration. Lunah, I've actual thought about CLEPing Sociology, do you think it'd be possible to CLEP that and Micro? And if so do you have any recommendations on what to study to CLEP these?

Thanks guys for your help!

There is no CLEP for Micro -- just the EC exam, which I didn't think was too painful at all. Congrats on being cancer free, and maybe you can whip through the exams now that the chemo-brain is gone! Good luck, keep us posted.

You say you have failed tests. I think you need to reevaluate how you prepare and whether or not this is a reasonable expectation. It is possible to take two tests in one day but it does not look like you are doing well in your preparation, so I would not advise trying this unless you can really get it together. Good luck.

Take the Clep sociology it's not a bad test, only costs $70. If possible get the Rea Clep book. Check out this site for Clep tests, www. Degreeforum.net, do a search on Clep sociogy and you will get useful info. If you want to subscribe they have flashcards and practice tests. This test probaly can be taking after 2 days of studying. Good luck

You would have approximately 10-11 weeks to complete all of your requirements to meet the deadline. If you are set on EC I would say be prepared to leave Ga. The processing time for graduation alone took about 4 weeks for me after CPNE completion. I am not saying it can't be done but you would need to be a test taking monster. The decision is yours and congrats on your recovery. :)

I know this sounds a little "shady" but it isn't. You didn't say where you live in

GA but are you anywhere near a border into another state? I only ask because if you lived within a reasonable distance to a bordering state you would have justification to take the boards and finish in another state with the expectation to find work in that state. This would take the time constraints off you and allow you more time to finish. I truly wish you the best of luck.

Thanks for your help everyone! I really appreciate it...So, what I've done is I gave up on trying to be done by April. And, I'm just doing the best, and especially now that warmer weather has hit, I'll be able to work less due to being put on call and study more. As far as licensing in GA, if I have to get a job in another state, fine - Florida here I come! However, with the restraints from the State Board of Georgia I should be able to get licensed in Georgia of course with having to complete clinicals. :) Anyway, I'm due to take the Health Differences 1 exam again, in 12 days! Yikes!! So, I've been studying MyStudyGroup101, and flashcardexchange.com. Dream I know you mentioned using MyStudyGroup101, did you use them as your only study guide or did you use something else, anyone else got some ideas on what to study by? Will MyStudyGroup101 be enough? I'm cramming major to make sure I'm going to pass this test. I'm so ready to be done with school! If anyone has any recommendations it'd really be appreciated! Thanks guys for all your help and advice!
