NCLEX to be scrapped???

Hi all,

I'm new to this so please bear with me, but a friend of a friend of a friend (we're real close!) has told me that the US & Canada are planning to scrap the NCLEX in June of this year. I can't see this happening, but wondered if anybody else had heard the same or something that makes more sense.

Thanks

Tom

Welcome.

I haven't heard that. In fact I've heard they are going to raise the standards of NCLEX making it harder to pass. Perhaps this is what you've heard.

My understanding is that every few years they redo the whole test, in essence updating it.

That's what I thought, but my friend of a friend ..... was adamant - I'm trying to get the magazine article that she read.

Thanks though.

NCLEX exam is only used for the US, Canada has its own exam. And neither one are being done away with.

Well, we have confirmation here in Az that NCLEX IS raising their standards effective April of this year. I graduate in May! Grrrr.....:stone

Many states are considering raising the standards/difficulty of the testing, but doing away? Doubt we'll see that in our lifetimes.

Don't hold your breath.

I think that the test is meaningless anyway. All the material is in the courses you take. Why test and retest? Just more revenue anyways. Even if you pass, this doesn't ,make you a better or worse Nurse. Experience is what helps you out along with preceptorship.

I wouldn't necessarily say meaningless, but you are correct that it is all about the revenue for many states.

Same test, but some states only charge $50 for it and some are over $200. That's why you'll never see a "national" license: some states will never willingly relinquish this tax/fee base.

Arizona is not raising its standards, the exam is a national exam and all standards are being raised

When you write the exam, the test does not know which state that you are writing it for.

It is a natioanl exam; what happens for one state, happens to all.

It is not state specific.
