Specializes in NICU.

Hi everyone,

I'm from NC but I start travel nursing in Sept. First assignment is Scott and White (NICU) in Temple for 13 wks. I used to live in TX but my parents tricked us into moving to NC when I was 12. Anyways...I am nervous excited! We were in northern TX then, so I know nothing about the Temple area. Anybody have any advice? I saw someone said Temple was a horrible place to live. Is it really that bad? What's the hospital like? What's there to do when I'm not working? It's close to Austin but I'm not familiar w/ there either. HELP!!!!! Any info is gonna be beneficial. Thanks in advance.

NURSES ARE ANGELS HERE ON EARTH!

Well good luck trying to find something to do when you are not at work. My family drove through Temple looking for something for the kiddos to break up the drive to Houston. 13 weeks sure seems to be a long time for a traveling nurse. Dusty

so i'm looking at road trips? what's gas running out there?

Right now gas is between 2.70 and 2.99 depending on if you are in the country or near a bigger town. Road trips are great to the malls around Austin or Round Rock.. If you get the chance to get in the Hill country DO DO DO !!!! It is SOOOO beautiful. New Braunfuls(sp) Kerrville, or anytown around there would be a GREAT !!!!!!!!! While we were in Gruene (GREEN) several people told me that the area was about to get a new "mega" hospital. Good luck, it will be wonderful for you to get back to TEXAS !!!! Dusty

Dallas / Ft. Worth has (I believe) 6 big NICU departments. Are you wanting a traveling job or are you ready to settle down?

i'm gonna travel for about 2yrs....see where i like the most

Welcome back to Texas! Temple isn't that bad. You'll be in between several college towns (Austin, Georgetown and Waco). If you travel, be sure to ask about tax advantage pay. You can get half of your paycheck tax free if you ask. Let me know if I can help further.

Tsue

temple hosptials are supposed to be some of the best around! and yes you really have to check out the hill country area, fredricsburg is wonderful. there are a bunch of outlet malls in san marcos i believe. that part of texas is just gorgeous, especially you will get part of the fall and get to experience the color changes in the trees!!! good luck!

I live in Temple about 3 miles from Scott & White (but don't work there LOL). There are a few things to do around here, a small mall with a 12-theater movie place, Super Wal-Mart, brand new Target and Best Buy, and a few restaurants. But, as others have said, there are quite a few things within driving distance, so plenty to do.

PM me if you have specific questions or whatever!
