Motivation at work

Published

I am working on a presentation on Motivation within the hospital setting for my Leadership class. How does your hospital or nurse manager motivate you? What makes you want to keep coming back to work (after a long hard day)?

Thank you!

Specializes in ER.

She backs me up.

She listens to our discussions at meetings and uses the information when making policies.

She provides adequate staff and equipment.

Basically, if I know she's got my back I will extend myself as much as possible to help her.

My facility use a transformational leadership approach across the board. As a manager, sometimes it is not possible (if not impossible!!) to make everybody happy...but how you handle yourself and how you interact with others, make all the difference.

You would think it would be money or more money that motivates people at work...WRONG. research shows that most people just want to be recognized for their contributions and hard work. So keep that in mind when you design your program. Personally I like involved managers that care about the care we give and product (so to speak) we are producing. There are many ways to show that care....listening being very important to me

My NM is AWESOME--very personable. You can go to her with pretty much ANYTHING. She takes our concerns to heart and makes changes. That's a big motivation right there. After a long hard day, what motivates me to go back to work? The pts. The money. The thought that the next shift might not be so bad. My coworkers--LOVE them.
