Montefiore in the Bronx

I've always heard lots of good things from friends and relatives about Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, but I know no nurses or other hospital staff who work there.

What's the environment like? Are nurses there treated well?

Does 1199 or ANA or some other union represent the nurses there?

Are there specialized training programs for new grads, aside from every hospital's typical orientation? For example, some hospitals (like NYP) offer direct ICU training for new grads interested in that specialization.

from what I hear montefiore is a great hospital. their benefits are fabulous. they have a great tuition reimbursement plan. basically no wait to be covered by benefits and sick time. their salary starting off is mid 60's. my friend just got hired as right out of nursing school (passed nclex) into the pediatric e/r. it has a year long orientation that takes her throughout the whole pediatric division of the hospital from pediatric oncology to icu to regular floor to you name it. they are giving her her acls, pals and everything else. she loves it. if you interview with them just insist on going into a specialty otherwise they might try to steer you into med/surge. myself, I took the psych route and love it.

hi everyone...just had a question...i heard that montefiore paid less than most other city hospitals, despite the fact that i know it is a great hospital. does anyone know whether this is true? anyone have an exact figure for a new-grad rn? montefiore would be great for me, location-wise, but if i could make more in manhattan, i'd go there..thanks!

JENNYMAC, CITY HOSPITALS PAY SIGNIFICANTLY LESS THAN DO PRIVATELY OWNED HOSPITALS (MONTEFIORE, ST. BARNABAS, BRONX LEBANON)... BUT MONTEFIORE IS ONE OF THE BEST PAYING HOSPITALS AND BEST REPUTATIONS. AS AN LPN, WE HAVE CONTRACTUAL AGREEMENTS WITH 1199 (UNION) FOR PAY RATE INCREASES... AS A STARTING LPN WITH 0 EXPERIENCE, MY PAY RATE IS 805 PER WEEK WHICH ROUGHLY AMOUNTS TO ANNUAL GROSS OF $41,800. CITY HOSPITALS (HHC) PAYS ANNUALLY 37,633. $4K OF A DIFFERENCE AND CITY HOSPITALS GET A BIT MORE WORKLOAD.

I think Monte pays less than private Manhattan hospitals, that's probably what you heard, but it isn't a big difference. My fiance's Godmother is the NYS ANA rep there and she loves it and says it's a great place to work. I know quite a few people who work there that really seem to like it, most of them have been there at least 5 years.

Hi everyone, I cant speak for the RN's at Monte but I am an LPN there and have been for alittle over a year now. 1199 is my union and they are excellant. NYSNA is the union for the RN's and from what I hear from the RN's I work with they are very happy with thier representation. Also there are soo.... many different departments and offsite clinics within Monte throughout the Bronx and Westchester County.
