Been a nurse over 10 years- I have never been in this situation before..
I have been on this job ( a new job )for 7 months now. as an LPN working night shift, when switching shift, me and the off going nurse would count the nurses cart, but not the med techs cart. Saturday morning, the med tech took over the med techs cart. I .didn't count the med techs cart. never have since I have been there. so the med cart went Thur the day shift, the evening shift and back to me the night shift. me and the off going nurse would count the nurses cart, but not the med techs cart.
This pass Sunday night as usual me and the off going nurse counted the nurses cart but not the med techs cart.. the med techs leaves at 10:30. .I know there no accuse, I should have made it a habit and counted the cart and not been so trusting..
This pass Monday , found out, that a card of percocets is missing along with the narc sheet..and now I'm been held responsible for these missing narcs and the narc sheet..I counted the cart by myself to make sure all the pills were signed out..how would I have known something was removed from that cart, when I'm not habitually on that med cart. I counted what was in the cart along with the book.. I'm being framed.I offered to take a pee test and the Don says that's not what its about??? what am I to do..I don't want to be the escape goat, I don't want this on my license I don't want to get fired..these pills are missing. I didn't take them. what can I do?

D@mn ALFs! I'm a new grad LVN and worked in an ALF. It's so hard to cover your own orifice when the facility uses non medical people and nurses and wants to follow 2 sets of regs: social service and medical model.
There needs to be a book on how to work in that kind of weird setting.
Sorry this is happening to you!

a P test might prove you're not using, but it won't
prove you're not diverting, so limited benefit here
is the med tech cart usually counted by one person only
(only one signature) or is this something you're solely guilty of
it is very hard to comment here without violating the terms
of this board

If you carry your own malpractice insurance, now would be he time to call them for some advice.
If it was part of your responsibilities that you actually do count the other cart, and you didn't, therein lies a problem. Or if you singly counted, not with a second party, another issue. Know your facility's P&P re counts - that might be where the problem is as you may have failed to follow proper policy procedure.
And call your carrier.

Who by policy is supposed to be counting the med tech cart? I believe....By law it needs to be a RN/LPN (two licensed staff members). The med techs function under your "supervision".
If you were not in compliance with policy...it won't matter what was usually done...policy should always be followed.
It stinks but that is unfortunately the way it is.

In my facility, the med-techs are working under my license. With each change of the shift, we count all carts. The med-tech does not leave or pass off her keys without another staff member counting and signing off for her cart.
