General is only offered at my school but would love to take a medical micro, however I would think you would need General before going in depth, I learned sooooo much in micro I can't imagine skipping that to go forward.

Thanks - the CC I am at now only offers Medical Microbiology but it is impossible to get into. You pretty much have to get there at 5am to wait. I am going to take it online and they only offer General. I hope that will be accepted when I get accepted into a nursing program.

If you plan on transfering in the future, just make sure it is transferable. Im at a cc right now and I know eventually I want to complete my BSN, so I double check the different universities that are possibilities to make sure they will transfer. I am taking general micro in two weeks... Medical micro sounds more interesting!

I have looked at the 2 colleges that I have applied to and both just say microbiology.

To play it safe I would email the school to see if they will transfer. The medical micro at your cc does it have a lab with it? I know most universities your sciences must have a lab. And at some cc their program requires less depth courses ie. no lab.

I would definately check. I went as a guest student to another cc in my area because a ethics at my cc didn't transfer, but at the other cc it would.

It might take you a day or two to get an answer, but better than repeating a course..... Good luck.

I've never even heard of a medical microbiology class for nursing! I would definitely look at what credits will transfer...but in any case, I would make sure that it has a lab. Most schools require microbiology with lab.

Tracy, email the asst dean at PBISN to double check with that class before you take it. It seems they are very particular. I'm not sure about NYU. Before you spend money on it and can't use it. I know the PBISN asst dean will respond right away, it will also put you on her radar that you have applied for the Fall 2007, if you don't have her email addy let me know via my email addy that you have. I know when I wanted to take Nutrition on line with SLN I emailed her. I made sure too say that I applied to the Fall 07 semester, and that I was in the process of finishing up pre-reqs and if I was allowed to take Nutrition online. I made sure to copy paste the course description from the online catalog and she responded the very next day and said it was ok. So just do that before you go through all that pain to take it and then you can't transfer it.

I agree with checking with the school, and I have seen the class offered, but only at Community Colleges.

Anything you are transferring to another school, they are more than happy to help you with the "transferrabiilty" issue before you waste your time with it.

Just completed medical micro yesterday. It's a pre-req for our RN program. Many people will say that this class is soooo hard. It's not, atleast from my experience. There is a lot of homework, quizes etc... to do, but it isn't mind blowing difficult. I thought it was a lot of memorization. I got a B in the class, but keep in mind I also took this along with NSG 203 this semester. Today is my first day of summer break and I'm so happy it's over! Good luck to you! It's a very doable class.

If you want to read more about my adventures with this class and NSG 203, check out my blog @ http://my-journey-as-a-student-nurse.blogspot.com/ I talk all about the ups and downs. :lol2:

We had Intro to Micro which was kinda a combination of general and medical. I LOVED that class. It was so fun.

My Intro to Micro was like this as well except I didn't love it. :lol2: It was mostly general and only the last few weeks were medical. I would have LOVED to take a medical micro class instead. I agree with checking with the schools you will be applying to.
