This may be a totally stupid question but I'm doing my research paper for my micro final. I'm a little more positive that I have B. cereus and in case I'm wrong, it's only a 5 point mark off. Anyway, here's goes my stupid question. We have to "discuss" why we did each step and blah blah blah. Well we did 2 Gram stains, one directly from our unkown slant, the other from the growth in our nutrient agar plate. Why were 2 gram stains from the 2 growths necessary? I know there is a logical explaination but logic has escaped me. I was up til 4 am writing the first of it--thus far 13 pages and counting. Don't ya just love micro? Ha!

Anyway if anyone knows and can explain the logic behind this, I am thanking you ahead of time for your answer.

Don't get discourage. I don't think you've done anything wrong. Could it Aerotolerant anaerobe? They are microorganisms that can not use O2, but are no harmed by it either. So, there would be growth through out but not much, if any, at the top.

I hope this helps. We are finish with our unknowns and cleaning up lab. So, I remember the gussing game hoping I could get some help from somewhere. Well, I never thought to check here. I've been so busy, this is the first time in awhile I have actually been on here. Well, I am saying all of that to say this even though I didn't have the help I still did very well on my paper. It was 13 pages long and I got a 95 on it. The best advice I can give you is to look at all of the test that would help you to narrow it down. Ex: Indole (SIMS), the Phenylalanine Deamination, Oxidase, EMB, Endo, etc. I hope I was able to help. If you have anymore questions post a reply. God Speed to You!! You will get it.

PS, try to keep a good journal entry. What I mean by that is go ahead and explain exactly what the test shows. Not that it is just neg or pos. Go ahead and take the few extra minutes to write it in with the results. This way you would have a better understanding of it.

Night! :) :balloons:

Thanks I apprectiate you taking time to help me!

I did get to talk to the lab instructor today and she said that if it were microaerophile or faculative it could possibly have just settled at the bottom so not to worry its not wrong, i felt so relieved.

We were able to turn in our first DC1 box on tuesday with our gram stain and morphology and they returned it if you were right you got extra credit if you were wrong they told you what you did, so that really helped out a lot. I was very wrong. I actually have it figured down to the Genus so now its just worrying about writing the darn paper I am very nervous about that is 85% of the grade. I am not the best writer.

I am taking good journal enteries though and photos! so I remember what I am doing.

Thanks again for your help and congrats on your great grade!

I know it sounds silly but being in school with three kids under 7, trying to keep my house clean to try to sell it, and working on those two classes and doing well....I just feel great. excellent doesn't that feel good to be done!! I can't wait myself, I am fairly confident in getting my A's I have a 98 in micro and 99 in AP right now so unless I completely bomb out I should be ok.

still have to do all that darn work though they are sticklers heheheehe

you are not silly blessedmom we all understand!!! congrats....:balloons::balloons:, i can not wait either micro is my last and i am waiting to hear about getting in.

BlessedMom--I am jealous! I still have 2 more weeks of micro and A&P2. And can I say, I stand in awe of you? Ha! I have only one rugrat (age 3) running around and that's plenty! I can't count the nights I'm up into the wee hours seeking out that precious quiet time.

Congrats on your completion and your grades!

Congrats. I am excited with you. I still have on week. My final in Micro is Friday, May 4 and I can't wait for it to be over. I also am awaiting acceptance in the program. I have 3 little ones as well. Mine are 6, 4, and 7 months. I know what it means to seek out that quiet time in the wee early morning hours. Yall it is almost over. You enjoy yourself BlessedMom, is there a couples of weeks out for a break? I know after my final I have 3 weeks before class starts again. And you better believe I will enjoy it to the fullest hiding out for at least a week:sofahider . God speed to all of us. Talk to yall later.

Man...you guys are so lucky... I have two more weeks after this one. I can't wait to be done. Congrats to those of you who have finished. It will be a great feeling knowing pre-req's are over!!

Almost done!!! Just one more lecture and then a lecture test! I got so lucky with my professor for Micro! He made it a very enjoyable and stress free class.

I just need a 70 or more on the last test to get an A for the class!!! Now if I can be so lucky with AP2 and Statistics. ALMOST DONE!!!

Yay great news! I have loved micro too and also lucked out with a fabulous professor who really loved and enjoyed our class. I have my last test today before the final hopefully I'll do well and then I just need to finish the unknown paper and the final exam and I'll be done, I am so looking forward to summer.

foxy,

please, please do not give up. i was in your same predicament last semester and i promise, it is not too late to bring your average up. i had 4 tests that averaged a 64 with 2 tests left. in lab i had an 89. i went to talk to the instructor and she told me that i better not drop her class, that i was an excellant student and i would get it! she was right. the next test i made a 97 and the last one i made a 95. on the final i made an 85. i just sat down with my instructor and even though she was rumored to be tough and rude and had a high failure rate, once i talked one on one with her, i realized how she wanted us to study and it all clicked! i took everything that she lectured to us, wrote it on a flashcard and studied the h**l out of them. the difference that i made was instead of trying to write each topic or section on 1 card (like i was used to doing) i wrote 1 thing. like when we had to learn the table on eukaryotics and know the difference between the various diseases and vaccines and symptoms, i would write 1 symptom with the answer of the disease or group on the back. i would have a stack of flashcards that was 4 inches thick, but it worked!! just break everything down to the easiest that you can, and it will help tremendously. believe me, i can relate, and i made it through micro with an 87 average!! :yelclap: just keep the faith. if it is meant for you to be a nurse, you will be!

thank you!!!! thank you!!!! i am so happy i listened to you..... i am still in micro a month and some later with a 76.9% it still might be possible for me to get a b, but we will see if an 84% is something i can pull off. there is still two more exams, and yesterday i just found out i got a 101% on my unknown! yippie! i am so excited, this actually feels doable. i just had to tell you how much i appreciated you being there for me. hope you are doing well, talk to you soon!
