MDC Fall 2011 =)

Hi guys! Who else is applying for MDC Fall 2011?

I am also applying for FIU-- I was accepted last year to MDC but for financial and personal reasons could not attend. :'( Who else will be applying to Generic FT? Please state what program you will be applying to!

I will be taking the TEAS sometime in March, in which I will also be taking the HESI A2 for FIU. So I might as well be studying for both, lol. Anybody taken the TEAS at MDC? Share your experiences here! :) I will be using a general book for nursing school entrance exams... it's by Barron... and I will be studying my math from a nursing calculation book, and my sciences from my anatomy, biology, and other notes. Is it true there is geology on the exam? How irrelevant... lol

Well good luck to us all! :heartbeat

Hey MiaNur! : ) Aw I know how you feel, buddy, lol. I was totally weepy for a while but everything happens for a reason. Don't freak out! It was a lot better than I expected.... just don't drink too much liquids before the exam, you won't be getting a bathroom break for a few hours! Haha.

You want to add your GPAs for your sciences, and then divide them... so for example

CHM 1033: A(4.0)

CHM 1033L: A(4.0)

BSC 2085: A(4.0)

BSC 2085L: A(4.0)

BSC 2086: A(4.0)

BSC 2086L: A(4.0)

MCB 2010: A(4.0)

=28.0/7 classes = 4.0 Science GPA

(I think that's all of them right? lol)

I don't know much about that health class.... I think Marah is taking it so she should be able to answer hehehe good luck!!!!

Hey I don't think that Hsc 0003 is required for fall 11 but it gives you an upper hand if you are toward the bottom of the acceptance list that is why I decided to take it. It is required for the spring though.

How I figured out my points was I took my science gpa and figured that to the 40% it is worth, since I have a 4.0 I gave myself the full 40 points then I took my TEAS score 84 and put that to 60% so 84*.60 then I added the points up and got about 90.5 points out of 100...honestly I have no idea if this is how they calculate everything, but from posts I have read on this site it seems to be the way a lot of schools do it.

Just noticed you only asked how to figure out the science gpa...I will leave this on though maybe someone knows if this is how Miami dade calculates our points or not?

I am also planning to apply to the fall 2011. I am done with all my requirements, and just eating the ati book, so I can do good on the TEAS. I am planning to take the test in mid April, since the deadline is may 1st. I was reading some of the posts and got a little discourage because of my gpa. If I calculated it right I have a 3.28 which I believe that can be a 3.3. I got A's and B's in all my classes, except for a C in chemistry. Did I calculate my gpa right? I hope not because I think with that gpa I will need at least a 90 on the TEAS to be considered. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!! :-)

actually the gpa isn't calculated like this. you take the letter grade multiply it by the amount of credit hours that class is worth and then divide by the total amount of credit hours. so for the grades above it'd be 4*28= 112 then divide that by 28 which would give you 4.0. Keep in mind all of your class don't weigh as much. if you get an A in lab and a B in lecture that would be 4x1=4 and 3x3(credits)=9 so you take 13 and divide by 4 which would give you 3.25 vs. the typical 3.5. This is because college classes are weighed differently.

My teas/gpa scores combined to about an 85.5% application score.

Would you guys still through another 4 hour testing with that score??

Thank you very much for the advice. I did exactly like you said, and I got a 3.0 gpa this time. I got B in both anatomy I and II and anatomy I and II lab I got an A. For chemistry I got C for lecture and A for lab. And microbiology I got a B. I multiplied the letter grade by its credit hour, 1 for lab and 3 for lecture. The sum gave me 45 then I divided 45 by 15( which was the total amount of credit hours) and it gave me a 3 which I think is a 3.0. What do you think, did I calculated it right?

Thank you very much once again.

FCAT an 85 sounds pretty good to me but if you want more peice of mind take the TEAS again and try to get 80 or above...I just turned in my application yesterday it feels good to be done...but my nerves are gonna kill me...they said I should get my letter between the end of June and mid July. If I get a white envelope I am rejected, if I get a larger manila envelope I have been accepted!

Ok so with your GPA a 3.0 I would defiantly try to get as high of a score on the Teas as you can. In my opinion it would be worth sitting through it again to show them you do know your stuff just focus on the areas you did the worst in when you are studying.

yea i calculated it that to a 3.0. with your 85% Teas score you combine the too for an overal competitive score of about 81%. so in my opinion i'd probably try to get a higher score but you may be fine. It all depends on how comfortable you are. I know overall people have been getting competitive scores of at least 85 or better on here. so thats something to think about like Marah said. good luck to you though (that TEAS score is great!!!) I'msure if you took it again you could easily boost that to well above a 90.

I can hardly wait til then!

Thank you very much for all the advice but the one with a 85 on the teas is not me, I actually wish that was my score lol!!! I will try to do the teas in mid April, since the application deadline is may 1st. Because of my 3.0 gpa, I think I will have to score 85 or more in order to have a good change of acceptance.
