MDC Fall 2011 =)

Hi guys! Who else is applying for MDC Fall 2011?

I am also applying for FIU-- I was accepted last year to MDC but for financial and personal reasons could not attend. :'( Who else will be applying to Generic FT? Please state what program you will be applying to!

I will be taking the TEAS sometime in March, in which I will also be taking the HESI A2 for FIU. So I might as well be studying for both, lol. Anybody taken the TEAS at MDC? Share your experiences here! :) I will be using a general book for nursing school entrance exams... it's by Barron... and I will be studying my math from a nursing calculation book, and my sciences from my anatomy, biology, and other notes. Is it true there is geology on the exam? How irrelevant... lol

Well good luck to us all! :heartbeat

It is possible that they are calling you by the Student ID #. They do it that way when it comes Financial Aid. Besides, they are supposed to let everyone know that the acceptance/rejection letter is coming through email and not regular mail. My last name starts with a C and my student ID with U. I'm always one of the last ones to receive any fafsa money!

By the way! I'm not applying to this programs, at least no yet. So this is just an opinion.

Good Luck everyone! I hope you all get in!!! :D

I dont even know what to say, I am so nervous that I want next week to come and go already, I am keeping my hopes up, and I wish I can get in because all my plans goes around the acceptance letter. I want this sooooo much that I am scare of what next week holds for us, but if I don't get accept I will not give up, I will continue to fight until I become a nurse... And I hope that everyone gets accept, but for those who don't I hope that they fight and don't give up!!!

Hey all,

For those of you NOT getting a call don't panic. I checked my MDC acct. and they have the WRONG NUMBER. Just double check to see what number they have down for you. Go to the MDC website, log in scroll down the center of the page where you see MDC ALERT NOTIFICATIONS and check what phone number they have o file... Good luck to all!!! I hope that puts you guys at ease with the phone call situation! And if its any consolation if I get accepted I am also relinquishing my seat as I have already been accepted into another program since March... Happy Nursing!!!

I've never checked my email so much i hope they send this stuff out by tomorrow. I can't take it anymore. I hope at least everyone that's on here gets in and if not don't give up. there are other options research. good luck:)

I linked my email to my phone and still double check my regular inbox just in case! I totally agree with you about tomorrow. I can't bear going through the whole week waiting and then possible waiting another week! AH!!:uhoh3:

If I don't get in I'll just take classes for my BSN and reapply in the Spring and start going to other options like FIU.

Good luck to you!!:D

I'm even reading old boards.

there is this old thread, i can't remember for sure but I think it was "It's that time again MDC 2009", and it has a lot of useful info... this one old student "AKspudUS" gave awesome advice, I even copied & pasted it on OneNote long ago lol:

Well, I won't speak bad of any MDC professors. There are some that are better than others. They all work hard to teach their students.

What they don't have time for is students that don't take care of them selves.

For instance, if you make an appointment to meet them in their office, make sure you show up and are not late. If you show up unprepared...they will not spoon feed you in your learning. They will on the other hand show you resources that you can use to augment your study.

That brings me to augmenting your study. Semester one isn't soo bad BUT..get ready for semester 2,3 and 4. Lecture classes are usually one day a week. During the summer two days a week. For every hour of lecture, I spend maybe 3-4 hours of study. For real!! You will need to make sure you manage your time well. Make flash cards and go over them in the grocery store line...any time you find idle can be used to study. I download all lectures to my iPod and listen to those lectures as a review. I also do 3-4 HUNDRED practice NCLEX question a week. If you get in the habit..that's on 40-50 questions a night.

As for the professors, they notice those students that are working hard. They will bend over backwards for you and help you out immensely when they notice how hard you are working. I have had emails returned by the professors at 11:00 at night. I have seen professors show up to tutor skills after pulling a 12 hour shift at the hospital. On the other hand, I have seen the students that don't really work hard...are barely getting by...given tutor referrals that they never go to..etc. Those are the students that the faculty realises...that most likely will not make it through nursing school. The faculty has to manage their time as well...so you can imagine how much time they give those bottom tier students. The faculty has heard all of the excuses. "I have Kids..and can't spend so much time studying", "Your tests are TOO hard", etc..etc.

I have three kids in elementary school...a wife...a part time job. But yet, I have been VERY successful in nursing school. I have gotten used to balancing life with being a student. It is an art..but it can be done.

Getting A's in nursing school is possible. It takes a lot of work...but believe me...completely possible.

How do we get the 300-400 NCLEX questions per week to study? Is that something we'll get info on in orientation or first semester?

I know that they give you like a box of ATI books at the beginning or something. It's for reviewing and has questions too I think. You can see them on Ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ATI-NCLEX-RN-Nursing-Review-Modules-Books-DVDs-/380346717778?pt=US_Texbook_Education&hash=item588e6e5652#ht_5188wt_905 I believe this is the whole series.

Oh and there are tons of good Nclex books that we could buy ourselves to practice with. I bought the one from Saunders and I got Reviews & Rationals for Fundamentals... Fundamentals Success, Medsurg success, pharmacology success, etc are good too. Depends which one works for you. Some people don't like using them and only use the textbooks. I guess we will figure out our study methods soon :)

Are we getting the email today? I just want to know already:uhoh3:

I know! I keep checking and checking my email! :barf01:
