MDC Fall 2011 =)

I don't know...I'll probably go out for a nice dinner, then get to work on preparing to start. Take a few weeks to review notes and fundamentals from my pre-reqs, and get up to speed on what I need to know for the first few weeks.

As much of a victory as getting accepted will be, this is when the jogging ends and the real race starts...

I agree with that last one. I pretty much will be doing the same thing. There is so much to do. So much reviewing, organizing, cleaning, etc. I've forgotten so much anatomy and stuff. I want to clean out my closet and do other odds and ends.

Oh but I know I really want to go to the zoo before starting school.

I agree, this is just the beginning. Since there won't be room to play for a few semesters, I plan to take a weekend getaway with my BFF. When I get home, I'll have all of the books waiting for me with a smile;)...all work,no play once the last relaxation weekend ends..

So, on a hopeful note, has anyone made a plan about how to celebrate a possible acceptance?

If I don't get in, I plan on going to the beach to hear some waves and get some peaceful thinking..lol

Well, I purposely planned a trip to Disney World next weekend. I figured it could be a great celebration if I do get in or will make me feel better if I don't LOL.

Just wanted to say also, while I hope EVERYONE here gets in, I hope anyone who doesn't does NOT give up.We will all be graduates of MDC nursing one day if we work for it, now or later!!

So I was there today and heard a lot of stuff. I heard a couple women making phone calls alerting everyone to check their emails next week. Second, one of the supervisors told me decisions have been made and emails will go out as early as Monday. Third, I had a major problem while there...

I noticed a few days ago that the system was still requesting a transcript from my current graduate school. I just graduated with my master's degree a couple weeks ago, so when the transcript was originally sent, I was still enrolled in a Histology class... so my transcript showed that grade as a blank space. A couple of the pre requisites (anatomy and physiology) I took during my masters program about a year ago, which was listed on my transcript. So naturally, I thought everything would be covered. I made a phone call a couple weeks ago to make sure, left my name and number, but no one ever called me back. So I went to the admissions office today to talk to someone and found out that my masters degree transcript was never evaluated... so the system still shows me as not meeting the anatomy and physiology requirments, although they have been complete for over a year and are on the transcript that is currently in their possession. I was then told "too bad, you will have to reapply"... after arguing for several minutes, I was then shown into the office of the director or supervisor, or whatever she is... after saying her system was down, she was unable to look up any of my information, but the pervious advisor I spoke to gave her the basics of my situation. After several more minutes of arguing.. she says there is really nothing she can do and that because decisions are already made, I will have to reapply for the september 1st deadline. I just need people's opinions... because I feel like this is completely unfair.. I submitted everything before the deadline... even clept'ed out of a class before May 1. She is telling me because my degree was not complete, they would not even look at my transcript. Is this right? I feel like people apply to programs while in progress at another school... its pretty common. Is there anyone I could or should talk to above these people in the new student center? I feel like this is a mistake on their part that they just dont want to own up to seeing as how I have had everything in since the deadline. The only glimmer of hope I have is that my masters degree will be conferred on Wednesday of next week.. meaning... it will show up on my transcript.. she said I could submit it as soon as it shows up and be placed in the applicant pool, and if people start not taking the offer of admissions, maybe then Id have a chance... but she said no garuntee. Im going to do this, but I feel like there is a better way to be proactive before monday.

Almost the exact same situation happened to me a year ago. In my case, however, my classes were complete (and grades were posted) before the May 1st deadline but I wouldn't graduate with my degree until May 2nd, the day after (curse you Sunday graduation!!). I knew this could be a problem so I didn't want to assume that I would be ok and called. Prior to the deadline, after I explained the situation I would be in, I was TOLD BY THEM that it was ok. Then after the deadline when I called back they acted as if they had never said it...I went in person soon after and was told by an advisor that they did not evaluate my application and it was too late. Talk about angry....and since I was trying to get into the accelerated program (which comes around once a year) I was just "out of luck". This year I reapplied but because of everything I went through with them a year ago it became my LAST choice of a school. Now I got into another school's nursing program for the fall so if MDC does accept me I will be rejecting it (and a seat will open up for someone else). *sigh* MDC is horrible with things like this. I understand your frustrations. I'm so glad that I am NOT going to be going there.

You are totally right... I was told before the deadline that I was all set and to look for a letter in June... Then in mid may I tried calling back to confirm, but to no avail. Left my name and number on voicemails, left my information with the people at the desk, but never got a call back.

To update on my situation... I had a new transcript sent over and the admissions director who instructed me to do this also told me to call her on Friday to confirm everything because she is going to be out of town next week. I called, several times, no answer. Left several voicemails and never got a call back. So now I just have to wait, hoverer, I have emailed a few deans and other administrators who are now aware of the situation and the lack of communication along with inconsistent information we keep getting, so hopefully something will change.... *sigh

But, futurenursing grad, at least you are in a program now and can focus on your goal.

I know some people that will be graduating from their program soon and a lot of what I've been told has been negative (in regards to structure, communication, and organization). For me, I think the MDC debacle was the best thing to ever happen. I had never really considered the school I got into before, but after doing a tour and hearing more about it (prior to getting accepted), I fell in love with the program. Considering all of the schools I've had on my list over this last year, this is definitely the best fit for me and in my opinion tops them all! :w00t:

Congrats!!! I was about to apply and last minute couldn't. :'( Honestly, I am only going to MDC because of money, or else I would def. go to FIU. FIU has an excellent program! (and its near my house)

congrats for sure. I definitely think that is one of the main draws to MDC is that it is so inexpensive compared to most other places, but FIU is great. :)

i got a phone call from mdc to alert me to check email for notifications for rn school aug 2011.

my last name starts with b, teas-score=81, gpa on sciences =4.0, bachelor's degree gpa = 3.2 (years ago).

it would be fantastic if we get notification before 2nd 6 weeks of classes start.

i'm scheduled for microbiology lab. it is 4 days a week. i'm most concerned that the orientation will conflict with my lab class schedule. i think it is really hard to make up a lab class! i'm wondering how much "stuff" we will need to do to prepare for rn school. yes, i'd like to start studying. i've heard about the volumes of textbook pages we need to read. i'm concerned about buying the wrong version / edition of fundamentals of nursing textbook?! hmmm?! wonder what i end up doing!

i felt awful for the rn student that had transcript problems! but going to fiu for the bsn is superior (in my eyes) than going to mdc for 2 years then another 2 years to get the bsn.

my friend didn't get a phone call, she said it seemed logical that those being accepted were getting calls (first, now). unfortunately, it made sense to me, too. the encouragement i gave her (knowing she is a better candidate for rn school than me) is to try to see if any transcript problems can be resolved now. if she doesn't get in the 1st wave of acceptances, maybe the 2nd wave of acceptances?! i read a post that someone asked mdc about this "process" and they said a phone call does not necessarily mean you are accepted. so, i let my friend know that... might give her some hope.

oh, and just finished my cpr class. so, that is great to have that behind me.

the certification card will come by mail.

if i don't get accepted in the near future to rn school, i've considered doing an lpn program. then it opens my options to apply to both the rn program and lpn-rn programs. increases my chances of being accepted to one of them.

i've had a difficult time trying to figure out my fall 2011 schedule if i am not accepted. do i take pharmacology (which can be a pre-req. at pbsc.edu) or do i start an lpn program at a local technical school? anyone who has read this far and has input on their thoughts on what to do... please let me know.
