Math courses

What kind of math courses are usually required for nursing? I'm not very good with math  and I was curious as to how much math I would encounter and what type of math I would encounter on my journey to becoming a nurse.

Thanks a lot!!

All I took was a college algebra course. I haven't done calculations yet though:imbar

Don't panic or anything, but I'm taking calculus right now for nursing. We actually had a choice of Math 1420, Elem. Calculus, Calculus, or Math 2000. I don't go to the school that offers these classes, so I don't know what they contain as far as subject matter. I have read 1420's description and it said it is a review of algebra, probability, combinations, permutations, etc. Anyway, I had to take calculus because I live too far from the school to take the easier math, so I'm stuck with it. It hads not been too bad so far--at least now I know what a limit is.

every school is different and it also depends on what kind of degree you are going for. I am applying to both ASN and BSN programs. I only needed elementary algebra for the ASN program, but for the BSN program I had to have Statistics (which means I had to take intermediate algebra first)

I hear some people have to take calculus. I would check with my school first before you waste potential time in a math class that might not count.

Specializes in Operating Room.

Algebra for the ADN and BSN.

Statistics for the BSN. (I'm currently working on my future RN-BSN while waiting to get into the ADN program.)

Ability to do dosage calculations is a must, whether you have to learn it on your own, or actually have a class for it. (Not sure, not in yet...lol)

Try your best, go to tutoring, and be determined to do well. Good luck! :)

my school requires finate math and statistics for RN, and Finite math for LPN. Before I moved to this state my last school required college algebra

Towards BSN it's college algebra and statistics in our neck of the woods.

Towards ADN it's a test but I don't know exactly which one, could be the placement test results.

What people have to take calculus?!?!? I thought I was the only one. I'm learning about derivatives right now. It's still not so bad. ( Please Lord, don't let it get bad...I only have nine weeks).:uhoh3: :uhoh3: :uhoh3:
