Happy New Year! I'm off to a good start with staff so far this year. Teaching Assistant brings kindergarten student in right off the bus and says "I think she has the flu". I say ok, what's going on? "Well she says she's achy all over". Student appears alert, has good color, confirms she feels achy. No other complaints. Her temp is 98.5. I inform TA that she doesn't have a fever and is not exhibiting signs of the flu at this time but that I would be happy to recheck her later in the day if anything changes. TA shakes her head and walks out with student.

Haha yeah right off the bus I had a line out the door...I pretty much announced unless your throwing up or bleeding go sign into homeroom first (usually by the time they do that and see all their friends they forget about their ailments)...I did have one come in off the bus with a bellyache-said he vomited twice this morning. Asked him why he was here then and he said Mom wanted him to come in to school so we could see he was physically here so he would not get marked absent and then the nurse could send him home...umm you still get marked absent...some of these parents think if their kid steps foot in the school they dont get a mark on their attendance record.

There is really no calculating what amount of absenteeism "perfect attendance" is responsible for.

She expected you to have magic flugoggles that would see the virus?
Or you'd wave your magic flu wand?
Bless. Her. Heart.
