I shut the lights out and lock the door. The main office still manages to call me most days, though.

i don't get a dedicated lunch time either. i just graze for about an hour on easy to eat finger food. i am up and down with nosebleeds, vomiting, etc. only a nurse could eat in between all of that ! :smokin:

when i try to go to the bathroom, that's when someone always enters the health room and it's always an emergency.

gotta pull my big girl panties up and try it another time ! haha

only in school nursing would this happen !

praiser :heartbeat

I have to say that I get my 30 minutes most days. For me, I look at it as a self-care activity. I cannot properly care for others if I am not feeling well myself, so I eat, and I pee when I need to. Rarely is there an emergency that cannot wait a minute or two.

I eat at 1, after the kids lunch periods, since many tend to wander in from their lunch, or you get the vomiters around that time. I do not eat in my office...I go to the break room and turn the light off and shut the door. The office staff is great about telling kids with minor issues to come back in 30 minutes. If there is blood or vomit, they call me and I take care of the issue, then return to my lunch.

In 2 years with this school, I have had to completely skip lunch only two times, and only about a dozen times was my lunch later than maybe 1:30. There was one day that I sat down to eat at 3 just as the kids were leaving, but hey, I ate!

I agree. I am in my 4th year of school nursing. I have rarely made myself take a lunch until this year. We need that break during the day for our physical and mental wellness. I try to take mine at 1:00 or 1:30 also - after lunchtime scrapes and meds are preety much done!I am pregnant this year and I must think of myself and my unborn baby. If I am hungry and stressed - this could lead to increased blood pressure and illness. Then, I will have to take time off. There are no subs in my district, so it would hurt the kids in the long run....
