LTC nurses...

There is no sharing an expierence on here or having an opinion obviously because if it's a negative one it gets turned around on you.

All through high school I worked in activities at a nursing home and then became a CNA. For a long time all I wanted to do was work in LTC. But after so long of seeing things not be done and people not caring it was time to move on to the next thing.

It's great that you all do care about your residents. By again this has not been the typical experience for me. There is no need to jump all over me and assume I am an awful CNA and person because this is the work expierence I have had.

It's not the sharing or experience that's the issue. It's the claim that your experience somehow "proves" that all LTC RNs are lazy, incompetent and solely responsible for the poor care provided to the residents of the facilities where you worked for six years.

Hospital nurses are expected to be on there feet and are always being monitored by the top people in the hospital so just keep that in mind. I started as a CNA in a LTC environment. I worked as an RN in a LTC environment. The oversight in LTC is tends to be less, when it comes.

A CNA has no idea what a nurse does, period. So take your judgement elsewhere.

Since I'm a mere CNA, I'm gonna throw my 2 cents in.

I've worked with many wonderful and some not-so-wonderful nurses - please bear in mind I don't gauge them on a scale based on how much they can help me during a shift, but more with how they perform in their primary role.

I rarely got help from nurses in LTC; this wasn't due to "laziness" but because they had a crazy amount of charting, admits, doc orders, etc. to complete. I go into each shift not expecting help, and that's cool. Some days it's a mess and it can't be helped, and others it goes by smoothly. I understand that my scope of practice and the nurse's scope of practice varies greatly.

Lazy folks exist everywhere and sadly, our experiences with them tend to stand out more than the amazing nurses that we do get to work with. Don't let the missteps of some cloud your judgment of the rest.

I didn't mean it to come across as judgmental. But honestly a lot of CNAs that I work with at the hospital have had a similar experience. So have you as nurses ever wondered why we as CNAs ha e left LTC I favor of hospitals or have chosen to leave the medical field all together?

I did state that I do have nurse friends and have met a lot of great LTC nurses! When my grandmother was dying I will never forget the nurse that hugged me and told me all was going to be on and she said she called her husband to tell him that she will see him when she sees him; and stayed with me all night.

There needs to be way more like that imo. And to say I have no concept of what nurses do..umm ok how do you know whether or not i'm in school??

It was more tongue in cheek than anything~ I'd be less of a ''mere CNA" if people didn't diminish us. :x
