Licensing help

I have had the worst time in college but I'm sure I'm not the only one. I have a bunch of classes but have not really attended an actual program. I have English, anatomy, psychology, history, political science, nutrition, and the list goes on. I was wondering if I am eligible to get my license in the state of Texas?? Some guidance to who exactly I could talk to would be great!! I am registered to take microbiology fall 2015 too.

I do not live in Texas but I am unaware of any way to become licensed without completing some kind of actual program. In Indiana people have to complete a certificate program to sit for the NCLEX-PN. Without completing a program (ex. for RNs either an ASN, BSN, or diploma program), there is not a way to become eligible for licensure.

In TX only graduates of practical or vocational nursing programs are eligible for licensing as an LVN by examination or endorsement

You can't become a nurse without completing some kind of nursing program. Unless you already have a nursing degree to endorse from another state, you can't get a nursing license without going to school. Those classes are just the pre-reqs for nursing school.

I am rendered speechless by the number of people who apparently think getting a Nursing license requires no more work than going to the DMV and renewing a driver's license.

I think TV and print ads make it seem like it's very easy, and people are shocked when they discover it's actually hard work.

Britt......where in that random list of courses are the nursing lectures, labs and clinical rotations that would give you a NURSING education? Why do you feel you would be able to pass a competency examination for a nursing license when you have yet to actually gain any nursing knowledge? I can assure you that political science would be useless in facing the NCLEX.

I don't understand how you feel ready to sit for a nursing exam. What am I missing? Your current major seems to be "Undeclared". That's fine....but isn't getting you anywhere.

If you want to become a nurse, the person you need to talk with would be an admissions counselor for a nursing program. That person could sit down with you and show you which courses you have taken qualify as a pre-requ for applying to the program....and how many you still need to take before you would be considered for admission. Once admitted, you should expect to spend two years learning how to become a nurse.....and then sit for the exam that would allow you to practice as one.

They are usually shocked, too, to discover that jobs aren't being handed out on every street corner by desperate employers with bucketfuls of money to throw at new grads.

You can't get a driver's license without going through driver's Ed. What makes people think you can get a nursing license by just walking into the BON and saying "please"?

It's definitely more involved than that. My BoN required me to say "pretty please" in writing. THEN I got my license :)

Huh, that's nothing. MINE made me wait 6 weeks to get my results. Via snail mail. And didn't seem to care that I was having heart attacks on a weekly basis!!
