We hear so often about how "nurses eat their young:angryfire " How about those co-workers who make your night extra special. You know the ones, they make you laugh in the worst of situations and will help you no matter how busy they are?

I have Gloria. She never complains, always has a smile on her face and is a GREAT nurse. When I know we are working together, I just know the night will be a great one.

Mine would be Deb and Mary. They are ALWAYS there for me, but I'm there for them too.

We MUST work together, life would be so much easier.

I have 2 young nurses who I absolutely LOVE working with. They are a real joy.Myla is new to hem/Onc; and Ursula is a new grad. You would never know this. They are both so good & both are just the BEST TEAM PLAYERS!! They will always help out and always have great dispositions.

I know when either of them is on duty that my nite will be a good one.

I have Suzanne. She's an inspiration. She will find the positive in everything and everybody and is the most caring and compassionate person I know. She's my role model.

Specializes in too many to remember.

This one is for Lisa...veteran nurse of 25 years, calls to check on me and I know I can rely on her if I have any questions. I just started a new job and it is extremely helpful to know that there are nurses out there that will back you up, even if you are new!

What a great thread to start!!

I work with alot of really great nurses and as a new grad they took me under their wings and there are no stupid questions that I can ask!!

Melody-she was my preceptor during orientation. We have built a great friendship. The kind where you think that you have known the person for a long time. I continue to bounce questions off her and she helps me to see things in a different light!! She loves my PDA and relies on me for information for that!! She and I keep each other built up and charged!!

Lydia-another wonderful nurse who worked her way up from nutrition services to an RN. She is my inspiration to know that I can do anything that I choose to do!!

Vanessa-she is really pt oriented and helps me see how the pt might be feeling. She also helps to uplift my confidence level when I think I am "sucking", she shows me the positive!!

Denise-she just keeps me laughing and on the floor that we work, it is very important to find the humor.

I am so greatful to these ladies that I just don't think that I would have made it through these first 7 months with out them!!

Love you guys!!

I work with so many great nurses that I couldn't possibly name them all!

Some moments that stick out for me recently though:

I was having a really busy night (coded the same baby more than once) and had several of my coworkers helping me out. When the baby finally stabilized, I went to do my paperwork and found that all my ins and outs were calculated (even my calorie intake) and all my new charts for the day were filled in as they needed to be. I didn't even ask anyone to do it, they just did! I also went to feed my other baby and someone had already done it and all his charting too. It was a huge help!

Also have been sick recently and had three coworkers call me at home just to check on me. There are really some caring nurses out there:) I'm going to miss a lot of them when I move on...

What a great idea!!!

One of the greatest I've met:

Vicky- always calm, very sweet but very sharp, always has time to help out the new nurses and all the nurses, and never says anything about anyone or participates in gossip.

Emily- professional, doesn't miss a thing with patients, compassionate and intelligent.

There are many others who are wonderful- I work with some wonderful nurses and hardly any that I don't enjoy or look forward to working with or seeing at shift change. (Now about me on the other hand... got a lot to learn from these ladies!! (no offense guys, just don't work directly with any male nurses I can think of))

Thanks for this!!!!!!!!

Keep the stories coming! As a person on wait list for nursing school, it was getting discouraging reading all of the negative posts.

This thread is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope one day, I can work with, and BE, one of these amazing and positive GREAT NURSES!

I hear ya Mona! I'm taking prerequisites to get into nursing school and when I was reading some of the threads, I started to worry if this was right for me. I still question whether I'm going for the right profession for me. I am compassionate and caring and when people find out that I'm going to school for Nursing they always tell me I'm definitely fit for it but I'm not very aggressive and my attention to detail needs to seriously improve. Please pray for me. I really want to be a nurse. I'm an accountant and this stuff bores me to tears! I want the satisfaction of knowing I helped to improve the quality of someone's life. I hope all this money, sweat and tears it worth it.

I 'll tell you what! I'm glad this thread was started, I feel alot better knowing that there ARE caring nurses that care for each other as well as the patients.

Wow, dorselm! I was going on the Accounting/Business track! And totally switched gears to go into the medical field.......You can PM me at any time you need to talk/vent/be scared. :) I just keep the faith, so to speak, take each day as it comes, and hope for the best. I have to remind myself that I volunteered all day, every Saturday for a reason to make SURE I wanted to go into nursing. Believe me, I was watching them like a hawk, to make sure it was something I could do! :rotfl:

It's never been a "calling" for me, but, I do know I don't want office work anymore, want a steady job that I can move anywhere to and get licensed in, and decent pay. :)
