A friend of mine is currently an experience corpsman with the navy. He has done two tours in Iraq, one in Afghanistan and has several years experience working is various hospital units including (currently) ICU. He will soon be leaving the navy and is free to move to any state to go to school. He is looking for an ADN program that he could do in 2 or less years. He has already taken basic classes like A&P I&II, micro, chem, English, etc with good grades. He is looking for a public, fully accreted community college with no wait list.
If anyone knows of any please let me know and I will pass on to him.
Thanks in advance.

Unfortunatly there is a shortage of nursing instructors around the country. There just isn't enough instructors for the amount of people that want to get into the program. From my experence, even though I had all the prereq's for the ADN course(I'm a scrub tech) it still took me a year and a half to get into the program. I've heard it was between 1-3 years to actually get into an ADN program. I recomend that you tell your freind to start applying now...there may be one somewhere, but very far and few between...Good luck!

Montana state university-Northern. They accept 40 students each year and as far as I know there is no wait list. At least not if you get your app in on time. They start taking apps in Jan for classes to start in the fall 10. He would graduate spring 12 with an ASN. They also have on online BSN program after you get your ASN. Website is msun.edu. You can also call 406-265-4196 and speak to Sharon, my mother, who runs the office. This is the program I graduated from. If you need any more info just pm me :)

Triton College in Illinois has no waiting list, contrary to popular belief (I fell for the myth myself, luckily was corrected during their nursing information session). If you have a nice GPA, pass the ASSET test in flying colors (not very hard to do) and LIVE IN DISTRICT, you will get in a good ADN program that is rather cheap.
Living in district is crucial, as you will have priority in being accepted (for the last few years nobody out of district was accepted). I finally decided on another school, so tell your friend to contact Triton and ask more specific questions.
This is the website: http://www.triton.edu/cgi-bin/r.cgi/index.html
Oh the campus is in Havre, Montana. Very small farming town in north central Mt. Small town bust cost of living is cheap. I was renting a 3 br house for $400 a month. Can google the town to get more info

McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas. No waiting list. Apply by the deadline with all the prereqs knocked out, a high GPA, and a high HESI A2 score and you're in. The have 80 spots to fill each semester. If you're not in the top 80 then they scrap your app and you have to reapply next semester. Good luck!

Yavapai college in Prescott Arizona has no wait list, but they do have a point system that is now in place. It's a nice college with student dorms, and they have a campus next to Sedona. Pre-reqs for the program are College Algebra, ENG 101, Biology, A&P 1, and a CNA course. The college now gives extra points to applicants that have co-reqs completed such as Micro, Growth and Develpment, A&P 2, etc. And you will get points for having a year of health care work experience and being a resident, but I think that military members will be waived the requirment of residency. It's a good college, and all my nursing instructors have been great and wanting me to succeed. I think your friend will get into Yavapai without waiting if he, or she, passes the HESI entrance exam with a good score.

Broward College in South Florida has no waiting list. They look at prereq grades only. Microbio is isn't a prereq but it's a tiebreaker, so it would be a plus for him to have it.
But you have to deal with Florida weather and the occasional hurricane.

Community College of Rhode Island is now merit based, because their waiting list was getting too backed up and out of control. Their website is CCRI.edu

Arkansas Northeastern College in Blytheville Ar. doesnt has a waiting list. You got to have survey chemistry(intro), math for healthscience or higher math and a&p1 before you can apply. Then you take the pax rn test and have 100 or above to be considered.

I would also think that as a Vet he would get preference status.
