Feb 19, 201016 yr Just received word from Maj. Hairston via e-mail that I will be going to the July OBLC-B class and will be stationed at Fort Bragg. I am nervous, but extremely excited. Has anyone else heard where they will be going? Just curious.
Feb 19, 201016 yr Wow! Congratulations! I haven't heard anything yet. Was Ft Bragg your first choice? Hopefully I will hear something soon.
Feb 19, 201016 yr Author Fort Bragg was 2nd choice. 1st choice was Walter Reed, but it is full due to the closing in 2011. Do you have Major Hairston or someone else? She goes on maternity leave next week so she should be e-mailing everyone by next week.
Feb 19, 201016 yr COngrats to you!!! I'm still waiting as well... a girl I know just got her assignment today as well and she's going to Germany, so she is pretty psyched! was accepted a little after she was so I hope to hear from Hairston before she goes on leave! I spoke to her a few weeks ago and she said she had me down for July and would be calling me shortly. Is she going on leave the end of the next week? aahhhh!!! I wanna know where I'm going!!Also, did she just tell you that you were going to Bragg or give you a choice of other locations since Walter Reed was not available? I chose BAMC, Madigan, and Tripler. Can't wait!!! So happy for you!
Feb 19, 201016 yr Author Thanks!! She told me where I was going it was already established because now they are requestiong funds from our units to pay for OBLC-B and then orders will be requested in April and should be received by May. I believe she goes on leave starting next week. I'm not sure whether it is the beginning or end of next week. Hopefully, you will hear from her soon.

Feb 24, 201016 yr Author Hello Everyone,Yesterday I did fingerprints and completed all of the paperwork for the incentive packet, and I believe this is the last bit of paperwork. I was wondering if anyone knows when we get our Military ID and when we can start buying uniforms? I asked my recruiter and she told me that we get our ID at Fort Sam during in-processing, but I thought I read somewhere on the forums that you get your ID before you leave. She also told me that she recommends I only buy my ACU's here, and buy my dress blues at Fort Sam because they have better tailors. Has anyone else been recommended to buy their dress blues at Fort Sam? Also, does anyone know about the USAA loans and when we can apply. I'm asking because I live in NYC utilize the public transit system and do not have a car nor do I have the funds to purchase a car, but since I am going to be PCS to Fort Bragg everyone recommends I purchase a car (it's the country). I wanted to use the USAA pre-commissiong loan to purchase a car. Does anyone have any ideas on this or any thoughts? How good does your credit have to be to be approved for this loan? Thanks!!!
Feb 24, 201016 yr Your credit has to be decent, and your debt to income has to be realistic (this is why I personally didn't qualify - my d-to-i is pretty high because the mortgage to our home in NC is in my name). But you're right - you will definitely need a car. It's not the sticks (it will be as far as you're concerned) but for the most part in the South, unless you're in Atlanta, public transport is quite crappy. Call USAA and they'll run the app - it takes about ten minutes for them to tell you yes or no. If you qualify, it's a great, cheap way to get a car loan, but look around, because a lot of places are running almost a zero percent interest rate if you use the finance company attached to the car brand (my car is financed through Honda, I beat the bank's rate by two percentage points when I bought it, and they're actually very easy to deal with). You can get a Reserve ID card now and it'll be updated to an Active one at Fort Sam. If you live quite a ways from Forts Drum or Dix or West Point (and since you live in NYC I'm guessing those are your closest ones), I wouldn't worry too much about buying uniforms. Since you don't have a car, I wouldn't worry too much about any of it up front. There will be plenty of folks in your position when you get down here (I'm stationed at Lackland AFB just down the road from Ft Sam!).
