So, I was just curious about what to expect when I get out of nursing school. What can I expect salary wise right out of school? I am not wanting exact figures, just an average. Where do you live?

There are a couple salary threads on AN you can check out. A google search on RN salaries will probably get you the info you need too.

Totally depends on area of the country, urban vs rural, large vs small corporation, etc.... there are also salary search engines :)

Although employment markets are local and highly dependent on where you live, you cannot expect to land a job immediately after graduation in many cities and states. The national economy has significantly slowed down over the past three years, and nursing jobs have not been immune to the recession.
I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth metro area of Texas, where newly graduated nurses will start out at $22.50 to $25 hourly at most local hospitals. Nursing homes, home health, private duty, hospice, and other areas outside the hospital will pay more.

depends where you live. here hospitals pay more. nursing homes pay low to mid 20's . hospitals generally pay around 30 an hour for new grads. all the hospitals in the area are magnet status and have good reputations. some home health and hospices pay equivalant of hospitals but i haven't heard better.

Salary will depend on the area. In OH (Cleveland/Akron area - this includes The Cleveland Clinic, UH, Metro, Akron General & Summa Health System) the starting salary for new grads is $21-$23/hr + shift differentials. I live in TX and as a new grad, I started out at $23.50/hr, but I also work nights and my hospital has a very nice shift differential :) TX is very big though, so the starting salary for new grads varies greatly depending on where you live. CT I believe is close to $40/hr, but you also have to consider that cost of living is much higher there than in other states.
Sub-urban, I suppose... I work in Wildomar.

I am in OR and the starting pay varies based on where you work, hospitals it is around $30, but with the economy the way it is, it is very hard for new grads to get into the hospitals.
LTC varies from $22-30, clinics and MD offices also vary from $20-26
