Nursing Students LPN-RN

Published

so let me start off by saying im an lvn and want to get into the rn program but of course a lot of you all know that there is a wait list or now a lottery system to get in. bummer!

anyways there's a school somewhat near my home with no wait list but its 60k for the program but its only 18 months!!!!!

question:

1. is that too much to pay for the rn program???

my mom says its not worth paying so much and just wait forever to get into the program at my local jc.

i dont know what to do???

what are your thoughts, advice, anything??????????

plz help thanks

What kind of school is this?

How would you pay for this school?

Honestly, that seems like an insane amount to me...my 18-month LPN program only cost 5K. Would you be graduating with an ADN? I'd be curious to hear what other people have paid for their ADN.

Specializes in Acute Care Cardiac, Education, Prof Practice.

I waited 1.5 years for my program and I would say it was about $1500.oo per semester X4.

60K sounds insane.

Specializes in oncology,obgyn,pediactrics.

i would definately say wait. whats the rush?

Specializes in Long-Term care.

This sounds like MedTech college. They are not accredited, that's why there isn't a wait list. If you don't want to wait, try the college network. I'm not sure of the web site just type in the college network into the google browser, and it will come up. This school is online, and accreditied. You take one course at a time, when you get done w/ the course you go to a testing site and take a test on that course and move on to the next. It shouldn't take more than 12-18 months to complete. You go out of state for a few days of clinical time and perform skills and someone checks you off. Anyway, i talked to a rep and he quoted me at 10,000. Which is not good, but better than 60,000. I have several friends in this program right now, and they love it!

i looked it up but i live in CA so i cant take it =[

before getting involved with any educational facility, find out everything about the program. Find out about the clinical components - like when will clinical occur? (some of these programs have terrible arrangements for their clinicals - so you end up waiting endlessly because they can't always find preceptors).

3 of my classmates already went there and graduated and have good jobs, im torn

I would say wait. Especially, now that the job market is horrible for new grads.

Wait. They are preying on you. $60,000 for an ADN/ASN degree that potentially won't even allow you to further your degee down the line if you want to...and you probably will.

I feel for you wanting to get into a program so badly. But the cost certainly isn't worth what you would get in return.

Edititing to say i just read on another post you are a LVN...60 k for a bridge program is ridiculous. work and wait it out.

My 2 year RN AAS program does not cost even remotely 60K. I would look into financial aid like Pell Grants or scholarships if you went that way. AND I think i would wait a little bit and see if a position opens up in the cheaper program your Mom is talking about. To me, you have to weigh out the financial end of it. If you had to pay $60,000 for a degree, how long are you going to be stuck paying for it once you get it? Not to mention, the economy kinda sucks right now ;). Be smart and weight all your options.
