Is this Normal?!

I'm a CNA right now in an LTC and I have to say you're not the only one feeling like that. I've been considering leaving to work at the local hospital because of a poor work environment (though it has been improving) but have stayed because of the familiarity with my patients, work place, coworkers, etc.

Now I'm one of those "jump in the deep end and learn as a I do" folks, but regardless, a new job will always have "new stuff" you have to jump into.

As for being honest, I'd just say working late isn't working out with your children. Unfortunately, we just have to let the little things go (though I agree, that "everyone in scrubs is a nurse" thing bothers me too! MAs are NOT nurses).

Don't let them strong-arm you into staying and good luck! :)

I also would feel guilty leaving the job after a few weeks. I think I would tell myself the doctors office is not going to fall apart because I leave, and there are probably, almost certainly, a lot of nurses who would love to have this job, i.e., replace me.

Be honest about the late hours weren't working out and you want a job that requires a different level of nursing skills from what you do in a doctors office.

Endoscopy nursing is great, I really enjoy it. My crystal ball is broken so I can't assure you it will always be busy, business will grow, etc.

Unfortunately with almost any type of nursing you might find yourself getting home late, just like the doctor's office, endoscopy clinics can run over. But hopefully that will be rare, or co-workers who don't have young children, child care issues, can stay late.

Luckily, this clinic closes at like 4/430.. and they stop scoping at a certain time so they never stay late (but I'm sure it'll happen here and there at some point). I just can't do the staying late every single day.. it's too much

I would simply say, since I've been working here I have learned alot. However, the unpredictable and consistent over runs are not working out with my family and child care obligations. For that reason I must be fair to you and to my family and give notice.

I would not mention another job. I don't think that would be looked on favorably.

I wouldn't quite your full time job for a job that is only per-diem with the possibility of becomming full time! Its to easy for this new manager to back out and then you will have no job!

you must be quite young. People quit jobs and give notice. I would be sure what you're leaving your current job for is worth it, considering it's not full-time but PRN. Do what you need to do. You have a family. Follow your heart and do the right thing, in the best way that you can. Don't overthink it.
