Interview at Duke

Hi all,

I am graduating this May, and I have just received word that I will have an interview at Duke University Hospital next week. I was wondering if anyone had any interview tips for me? This is my very first interview (besides a life guarding job) so I need all the help I can get!

Thanks so much to everyone who replies!

Hi spartan_711 and kce32305 ! Can you pls tell me a little about your qualifications? I filled out an application a few days ago and I also chose MICU on my survey. Just trying to see if I have a good chance of getting called for an interview. Thanks!

Thanks spartan! Do you remember how many questions they asked? Sorry for all the questions haha I'm so nervous my interview is this week.

Tell me about a time you gave excellent customer service. How would your instructors describe you. Where do you see yourself in 3-5 years. What will you offer as an employee. What do you expect from us as managers. Interview started casual, "tell me a little about yourself". Have you worked with patients on vents, drips, etc. What frustrates you. What do you do to relieve stress. Tell me an area you've grown a lot in.

Sorry no question marks they were all interview questions they asked me!

Has anyone interviewed for the Adult Surgery (2100) and Surgical Stepdown Transplant (2300) unit and what types of questions they ask? I have an interview there coming up and in the email it said I would have the opportunity to interview for both units.

Also, any advice and tips on questions to ask the managers?? Or how long your interviews where?

Hi all,

I recently interview at Duke Raleigh hospital on Wednesday and was wondering how long will it take before I know if I have the job for NA floating pool PRN? I had interview with hr and with RN as well as was show around the hospital. In addition, I was explain what I would be doing if I had the job, how many patients, how many nurses are in each unit, and was told about what Duke Raleigh Hospital has to offer. I loved the experience and was wondering about how long will it take before you hear back? I really would love to work there love to hear about anyone else experiences and if anyone knows.

Each floor has 2 sides like 3100 and 3300, every other floor has a "200" unit for stepdown. I am on 6100 so we do not have a stepdown unit (our 6200 houses a clinical transport team). The way it was explained, we can float between the two and if there is a fire or something it a safe unit and we all can house there. 61 is ortho and 63 is uro/gyn/ent. We are cross trained on both units. I even went to the uro floor for 3 months. I learned a lot. I am not sure about the other floors.
The "200" unit used to be the ICU units for 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 8th floors(SICU, CTICU, Neuro ICU and MICU). 3100 and 3300 are both SD units, and the 2nd, 4th, 7th and 8th floors have beds that can be stepdown or intermediate. The DMP now holds those ICUs except Cardiac ICU which is still 7200, as well as having expanded the capacity for more stepdown patients on the 7th and 8th floors(west/east instead of numbers). 9200 is bone marrow. I still have no clue about the peds/ob floors. The last I heard is that they are going to be remodeling the old 200 ICUs and maybe installing a gym in one.

I can't keep track LOL

Hello all! I just had an interview 1/9 with Duke for a pre-op/ PACU RN position and I am still waiting to hear back. I was supposed to hear back last Tuesday, but I got an email saying that they will not make a decision until the end of next week. It is tough to wait because this is my top choice for a job. Has anyone else has to wait a while? Did you get the job? Also, any suggestions for the best areas to live in case I get the job. Have a great day!

Hello all. I also have an interview at Duke Hospital on Monday for a Nursing Assistant position. Any tips? Im super excited and nervous at the same time. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello everyone!

I found out today that I will be interviewing for a new grad position in Duke's Neurosurgery ICU (8 East)! Like many other people in this forum, I have a shadowing experience following the interview. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with interviewing for this unit. I can't seem to find any information about it on the Duke website, so I'm thinking it might be a new unit? Anyway, this is my first hospital interview, so any advice would be appreciated!

Well my fiance interviewed on 8W (Neuro step down) in October, said the experience was wonderful. He was offered the job 2 days after interview, started in January, and is loving his preceptorship..

Hi congrats on your interview! I have a few timeline questions if you don't mind because I am currently waiting. When did you send in your initial resume/application? I applied on March 4th and my submission status still says "open" and "resume received by Duke Human Resources." It has not changed at all like many here have said "under review" or "fwd to hiring managers" How long before you saw a status change? Also how long after that status change did you get an email to interview. It is just the waiting game, and not knowing that is so killer!

When you applied did you just select critical care as one of your two options and they fwd your resume to each of the critical care units hiring?

Last but not least when you sign in to check the status what is you requisition number?

I ask because when applying for the nurse new graduate program I only got to choose 2 general fields and I chose critical care and emergency. I am very interested in Neurology ICU because it is where I did my preceptorship at another hospital. Again good luck, and thanks for any help!
