Interview at Duke

Hi all,

I am graduating this May, and I have just received word that I will have an interview at Duke University Hospital next week. I was wondering if anyone had any interview tips for me? This is my very first interview (besides a life guarding job) so I need all the help I can get!

Thanks so much to everyone who replies!

Same to you! Let me know how things turn out.

Good luck you guys!!

Hi all! I just received the e-mail to interview for the New to the OR program in December! Anyone else here selected to interview too? I'm coming from out of state so I'm really looking for information on the area as well as some friendly faces. :)

Received an offer for the Medical ICU on Friday! How'd things turn out for you kce32305??

psulli2010 I just received a job offer for the Medical ICU as well! I loved the shadow experience and DUMC however am still unsure as to whether I am going to officially accept or not (for personal reasons). What are the next steps in the hiring process after you officially accept the job offer out of curiosity? Trying to figure out when I should start thinking about apartments and whatnot. Also, do you know the official start date for the 2014 SNIP program?

I know each SNIP people depending on unit start different. I got PACU for the SNIP and I start Jan 13. Another classmate starts the same date for another unit. It all depends on your parent. There is 2 SNIP people per unit I believe (or at least my unit there is 2)

There were 6 SNIPS in my unit when I started. You are usually paired. We have 6 again this time around. I started in Feb '13. My "sister" unit has about 8 SNIPS going right now. It all depends the needs of the unit. I also think they start a new orientation every month if need be. They do try and coordinate a whole bunch at once if possible.

With the opening of the DMP, they can't staff fast enough!

Congrats/Good Luck to all!!!!

Spartan congrats! I have an interview coming up at Duke too, what was yours like? Did the behavioral questions trip you up any?

What is your sister unit mmc51264?

Each floor has 2 sides like 3100 and 3300, every other floor has a "200" unit for stepdown. I am on 6100 so we do not have a stepdown unit (our 6200 houses a clinical transport team). The way it was explained, we can float between the two and if there is a fire or something it a safe unit and we all can house there. 61 is ortho and 63 is uro/gyn/ent. We are cross trained on both units. I even went to the uro floor for 3 months. I learned a lot. I am not sure about the other floors.

Turned out great! I got the call today that I got the job in medicine ICU. I interviewed the day after you (Friday) and the MICU recruiter went out of town ALL last week so I wasn't contacted until today - I was fearing the worse because it rarely takes them that long to let you know something. So wonderful that both of us got hired!

yes, how wonderful! Looks like we will be working together! Would love to get in contact with you regarding relocating and such but it says I am not allowed to do PMs yet (not enough posts or something).

danceyrun, the behavioral questions were pretty standard. "tell me about a time someone's integrity was compromised. what did you do", tell me about a time you provided excellent customer service, etc. the managers were really friendly and didn't make me feel nervous at all. Half of my interview was a shadow experience so I got to spend some time on the floor with the nurses and ask them questions which was super helpful. Make sure you have questions to ask the managers in return. I felt like they wanted me to do a lot of the talking.
