I'm not creative but...

Published

I have a large bulletin board in my office and I need some ideas to decorate it each month. I would like to find a website that has different themes for health promotion such as dental health, healthy eating, ect. I am working at an elementary school if that helps. Does anyone have any ideas or websites that you use?

just to give you an idea from when i decided to do a monthly bulletin board:

Sept - Back to school means lice awareness. www.headlice.org has some materials you can use for pediculosis awareness month (sept)

october - -fire safety - it's fire prevention month and i'm a firefighter

November - handwashing with Hank the handwashing turkey. Each feather in his tail was a step in hand washing

December - i think i found something on cdc - the 12 ways to good health or something like that - i did something different before that but don't remember it

January- new year - new you - i'd poll the faculty on their healthy resolutions and post on my BB

February - healthy heart month

march - eat a rainbow of fruits and veggies for a pot of gold of health... or something like that - i got the idea from looking at 5-a-day.gov

April - i don't rememver exactly - i remember making a giant paper umbrella and i think i cut out positive words from magazines and pasted them on the umbrella

May/ june - i can't exactly remember these either - but i know i did a bb on sun safety and sun block use around this time.

I eventually realized that my bb wasn't in a location that people were actually paying attention to so slowly i began using the real estate on it for info that i wanted to access easily

Flare- these are awesome! thank you very much. YIKES It's LICE is September, for sure.

You can also go to one of the teacher supply stores for all kinds of bulletin board stuff and hygiene posters for your walls.

I have 3 bulletin boards, 2 in my room and 1 outside. 1 behind my desk is for my stuff (extensions, school calendar, pictures drawn by kids, etc), the other in the room I am decorating once for the entire year so it's more like a poster. The theme is Smart Eating + Exercise = a Healthy body. I made a kid playing sports to put up on the board. Simple but fun. Outside my room the bulletin board will change monthly this year. For September it's School Bus Safety, October will be a sketeton with bones identified and some info on bone health. not sure going after that.

I would just add that I am new too and I found that you can get a lot of free posters and materials from cdc.gov and other government websites on just about everything (dairy council, nutrition, head injury, dental, etc). I made a really cool My Plate board all from stuff I got free (except the really cool health foods border). I refer to it often when teaching my sick students about how to help your body fight off sickness. Rest, hydration and healthy food, plus lots of HAND WASHING!

Why spend a lot of your own salary if you can get stuff free???

I'm in an elementary school that has PK-6th grade. I have a bulletin board outside my office & change it monthly. For the beginning of the year, I usually do a welcome back board, but this year I did "STEP into a healthy lifestyle for school" I wrote on footprints different ways for them to be healthy. Eat breakfast, get 8-10 hours of sleep at night, brush your teeth, wash your hands, etc. For Oct, I do ABC's of school nursing, and have something for every letter of the alphabet printed on ghosts, pumpkins & fall leaves.

Love the footprint idea! I will definitely use this when I have a month where I need a new idea. Thanks!
