Are you the person who everyone seems to flock to with their problems or when they just want to talk? That's probably because you are a good listener. It is a wonderful trait to be labeled as a good listener, but sometimes people just share too much. What are some stories you have heard about but would just rather forget?

Do you really want to know?:nailbiting:

Yes, people come to me all the time. Probably the most TMI was a co-worker who told me her husband was mad because she spent $200.00 on a vibrator. :whistling: I soooo didn't need to know that.

I can't say I have any stories that I would rather forget :) But I have had lots of patients tell me things that they have never told anyone else ( which is good since I work psych), as they are telling the story they are like, Ive never told this to anyone, why am I telling you? I have found I am also the one who random people just strike up a conversation with in the line at the grocery store, amusement park, etc. Which is kinda funny because I am pretty introverted and not really a "people person".

I'm the same way! I would much prefer to be my introverted little self, but people will strike up random conversations with me at the gas station or grocery store line, but people tend to approach me.

Maybe we look non threatening.

Maybe, but I have been told one of the reasons the patients don't act out when im working is because I look like I'm somebody they don't wanna mess with

I wouldn't dare share stories I have been told. I'd prefer to forget some of them. I am glad patients feel like they can be open and honest with me, just wish some people had better lives.

yeah...what is it with people sharing the intimate details of their sex lives??? I don't consider myself a prude by any means, but I really don't care to hear the play by play.

I was working at a surgical clinic for animals years ago and a scrub nurse came in with her ferret and told me she had a man that was in for foreign object removal from his orifice. She then emphasizes it was a very large toy that the patient placed and got stuck and the surgeon asked her to remove it. She says to him that's why you make the big bucks buddy! I was like wow at the time I wS 19 lol

this is true I also think it's because we look non-threatening. But I welcome most of it unless a person becomes annoying.
