Hi all - I read on here how some of you love your job and some of you are very burnt out. This question came to my mind and I was curious what you would all do.
If, for whatever reason, you had the option of not working at all would you still be a nurse? Or, would you just work very reduced hours to stay in the field because it means so much to you and is fulfilling in your life?

If I had the obtion of not working at all I'd be doing HH strictly PRN so no call.
If I were'nt a nurse I cannot imagine what else it is that I would want to do other than be a dermatoligist. At 52 I'm not going back to school!

If I did not have to work I would take a research assistant position at my university while I finish my master's degree. I would also take a semester off to have a baby sooner rather than later.

I'd still be a nurse, but I would definitely cut down my hours, maybe to a shift a week. I love what I do, but I'd like to be home more, too. Of course, if money were no problem, I'd have a maid and a cook so I'd have less to do at home, anyway . . .

I could stay home full time, but I enjoy working per diem. Working less than full time gives so much of the real accomplishments of nursing with plenty of time to recover energy between days of work. For all the burnout in the profession, I would go crazy if I had to sit in a cubicle all day. We live the drama in this field.

I would definately stay in nursing although would reduce my work hour and frequency of work. If i wanted to go a month and not work,, i wouldnt.

I'd work per diem and just take classes in all the things I'm interested in! It'd be so much fun! I've always wanted to take a pottery class, woodworking, furniture making, and I've always been interested in law. But I'd definitely keep my hand in nursing, I really do love it! :)

If I were financially independent I would be sitting on a beach somewhere and having cabana boys bring me drinks with little umbrellas in them.

Sounds good to me.
I'd work as little as possible - but do more medical missions.

I would stay per diem just for fun, and we would buy a bigger boat. I'd go on 4 big trips a year, and upgrade our house, plus hire a maid to come in twice a week. Plus, I think we'd look into buying a vacation property.
