Let me put it this way - it is a lot of work and you have to make sure that you organize your time, in order to study effectively. But - you can
do well.
For example, Pharmacology may require that a student to do nearly 100% - and if the student is good in math - then it can be done accurately (just practice the calculations a lot).
And depending on your point of view - it doesn't feel like work.

You will never know if you can do it unless you try. Yes, for pre-reqs you need very good grades and it will be a lot of work if you are working full-time. You are still very young- if you are interested, go for it- take the pre-reqs and try to get accepted- if you get accepted and change your mind, then that's okay too- it's all about trying things out- not everyone is born knowing their passion in life- I sure wasn't. You will never know unless you try. Don't let everyone's venting and complaining scare you- we are in the nursing programs and we are stressed out- if you make it, you will be too, but there are also lots of good points, so get out there and try it :) Good luck to you, and don't let anyone tell you what you can or can't do.
thank you everyone for your encouragement. nursing is the only thing i can see myself doing but im not good at math or remembering things

If you have nothing nice to say... SAY NOTHING AT ALL ! :angryfire People always made it clear to me that I wasn't the brightest " bulb on the tree" however when it comes to nursing I discipline my self to make A's and B's on my exams... which is what I'm making now as a first year NS. If you won't to be a nurse bad enough, you will study hard, work hard, and succeed. You don't have to be a rocket scientist, you just have to learn how to critically think, and care for pts. Good luck... I say GO 4 IT

Nursing school is challenging, no doubt about it.
I graduate in April, and each semester is progressively harder (they build on each other).
HOWEVER, if you want something bad enough, I believe you can accomplish it.
All A's and working? Maybe not. There is nothing wrong with B's though.
Don't be too hard on yourself. If you really want it, go for it.
Best,
Diane
What is the point of your post? Please, enlighten me.

You do have to be decent at math (simple calculations), and you do need to have the capacity to remember things, otherwise I am not sure how you will manage to pass your exams. Maybe you should start out as a nurse aide and see if you are really committed to this type of work and then pursue getting into a nursing program. Nursing schools in MI are pretty competitive. It isn't easy but if you don't have a lot of external stressors you could do alright :). You're smart to find a career at a young age before marriage and kids .

Don't give up before you try. You say its the only thing you can see yourself doing, then you'll be fine. Never give up on your dreams! I think most of us felt at least a little like this in the beginning. I think it's more a fear of the unknown than anything else. The worst that can happen is you find out that you have to work much harder than you anticipated. Most of us went through this. Some of us even flunked out of one school before succeeding in another. The common thread is that we don't give up on our dreams. Good luck to you and relax. Take it one class at a time, don't look so far ahead. Finally, keep your eyes on the prize!
I am in the nurse aide program and will be done in mid december annd start clinicals monday. being a nurse aide is so much easier than being an RN. I have an A in the class and everything but nursing is a totally different ball game.
