I failed again

Published

I just found out I failed my second NET. I feel so dumb. I even studied this time. The first time I took it i had been out of school for ten years. That was my excuse anyway.. I had a week to study for it. The second time i studied for it, especially for the math section. My score went up dramatically and was in the superior range but I still am not accepted. And I ashamed to admit was a little rude with the lady in the office. I just felt under attack and inadequate. I'm so angry with myself right now. Now Im wondering if Im going into the right field. I'm 25 yrs and male. I have been in construction for 7 years before this, only because it was my only means for survival for my self two brothers and son. I adopted one brother and put two through high school. All while being single. So now Im finally deciding to start schooling for me and feel so frustrated. I got perfect grades through elementary school, but thats about where it stops for me. I have about a sixth grade education. I passed my GED and compass test easily. I have a 3.5 with my pre req's but in the mean time I cant get passed this test. Sorry to ramble... I guess I needed to let off some steam. Anyone have any suggestions?

:oI'm sorry that you failed. There are books available on ebay or half.com to prepare you for the NET test. If you can set time aside and study, you can pass this exam. Perhaps, you needed more than one week to study. I know it will be difficult finding time with your responsibilites for your son and brothers but you can DO this. Don't stop trying because you can pass this exam.

Have you been evaluated for text anxiety? Sometimes this can interfere with an exam.

Let's define failed. You were in the Superior range which is near Excellent. Are you attempting to get into a program that only has 10 or so seats? It sounds like you ranked in the top 5% of the country. Please elaborate.

Agree with bcskittlez. Are there other programs available near you?

You sound like a really nice person. I will keep my fingers crossed that you soon succeed.

Just keep working at it and don't give up. There are many, many stories on here about people who have perservered and made it after all

Take care and God bless

PLEASE dont feel bad about the NET test. I did horrible on the reading section SEVERAL times. The first time I got a 37%, second time(45), third time(55). I did great in the math ranging 77-90%. These schools make me so mad because they make their cut off scores so high. They know that only a select few will even get high enough to qualify. Sounds like this is your case. The 55 score that I finally got allowed me to get into a LPN program. Once I finished with that, I went to Excelsior and got my ADN. I never want to see another NET test for as long as I live. I suggest that you apply to another program and keep taking the test until you qualiify to get into a program. Those test are so bogus. They do not measure what one truely knows. Keep your head up, its not you.

Odd question tho, you say you've been out of school 10 years, and you are only 25 yrs old? Something isn't quite kosher here.......

yeah, i think that if you re-read his explanation you'll realize that he got a GED so that means he didn't graduate high school and being out of school for 10 yrs could be possible if he dropped out.

Anyways, Riseofthefall, don't let a test stop you from getting to where you want. buy a review book and study and do it again or apply at another school. like others said, you may be applying to a school with only 10-15 seats which makes it harder. If you really want this, go for it!

He got his GED, which means he didn't finish high school, so it makes sense.

Hey Don't feel bad, I finished High School and I still didn't pass the NET. I am mad also and I did the same thing you did.... went off. Not because I failed but because they KNEW I would fail! This particular school makes you take a test to see if you even qualify to attend their school then.....I did great on that one. Then they made me take a math placement test to see if I could take college algebra or if I had to take basic math first; of course I needed to take basic math. So now it's time to take the NET..... the school knows that it's college algebra that on the NET and that I am not skilled in this type of math and yet they still told me to take the NET they didn't say I should study or anything, so I failed it I took it a second time studied did better but still failed! Do you all think that what they did was fair? Mind you: I paid a $55 app. fee and $20 each time I took the NET.

Thank you for all the support! I really was not expecting that kind of response and I feel extremley better. Im not sure how this message board works but Ill try to respond. I dropped out of school at 16 so its not technically 10 yrs. its 9 and a half. lol. And there are only a few seats. I think 20-25 total for the program im trying to get into. LPN. Because Im too late with my test scores the classes have filled up and I wont be able to get into the actual nursing classes for another year! Ill be finished with Pre Req's at the end of this semester. So I guess im going to take some EMT courses in the mean time. Thats whats on my mind anyway. I havent completley made my mind up yet. I feel much better today. I was really upset with myself yesterday. I really do appreciate all the help from everyone. I feel greatful today. Oh and to answer another question about the test. I did fall into the superior range but my predicting outcomes needs to improve by 5 pts. and my stress level...??? I thought I was fine when I took the test. I even acted like a was less stressed then normal but for some reason my money and time came back high which docked pts as well. Go figure, money and time!

Thanks everybody!
