Hey everyone,
Just out of curiosity....... do people really keep in touch after nursing school? I always hear that everyone met their best friend in nursing school, and i'm not sure i'll be that person
Have you guys kept in touch with your college mates, or is it just a lot of hype?
Thanks!

It depends. My best friend/study partner in nursing school lives in Ohio and we've had to make a conscious effort to remain in contact. Thank Heaven for facebook and the fact that both of us work night. Once a week to about once a month, we'll try to arrange a phone convo -- which of course lasts for HOURS, lol.
I don't really talk to most everyone else in my nursing class, though. My study partner and I spent so many hours together during those hellacious four years, though, that I would hate to lose contact with her.

I have with my closest (though one has been recently mia... have to track that girl down...) and hope to never lose them. Going into nursing school, I felt like you did - just could not see myself becoming great friends with anyone else in the program. I am so glad I was wrong, because I met some of the most amazing people ever who have become some of my closest friends. I think it's hard to go through such a rigorous program, with so many ups and downs, without bonding to your at least some of your classmates. Also, it is sooo nice to have them to talk to about things at work and other nursing stuff, because my other friends (as well-meaning as they are) could never understand like they do. (And I am not going to talk to the nurses at work about these things, because I am keeping work life and social life separate... my coworkers are great but i am not at work to make friends - too many problems!) On that note, the classmates I became closest with and remain good friends with... our friendship doesn't revolve around nursing. We can talk about other things, do other things and still have a great time. It gets very boring when the only thing you have to talk about is school/work... Love them dearly and couldn't imagine having gone through school without them!
Hope you meet some great people! :)

There is a group of us that keep in touch from our ADN program that graduated in December 2008. Some of us work together so it makes it easier. Also, the same group of us started a BSN completion program at a local university in Fall 2009, so now we see each other all day every Tuesday and we're stuck together for another two years.
