Published

Hello all i have a question to ask i finished school in 2010. and its almost time the other classes to finish for 2011. i have no job yet and the others will be done in couple months. i keep trying to find jobs but their is nothing right now. would u hire someone that's done school 1 year ago with no job yet new students are gonna graduate REALLY soon and are more up to date on things then me and they might have the upper hand then i would. SHOULD i upgrade to RN just to keep current on education. I am an RPN/LVN right now if i dont get a job by the end of the year?

if you can afford to go to school then you might as well get an RN.

Back to school for you! And...take a prn or part time job while you go, if you can find it.

My advice to you is to learn to spell and use appropriate grammar, and maybe then someone might hire you. How are your communication skills??????

As an educator, I feel it is important to have excellent communication skills. I am never one to say that you have to have fancy degrees behind your name to show that you are intelligent. But posting using poor grammar or spelling/puctuation makes you look less intelligent. Sorry to offend you...;)

Seriously? I was just asking a question why did people start jumping onto conclusion about intelligence this and that. things like that need to be kept to your self because yes i am intelligent just like everyone else here, but when you mention that "spelling/puctuation makes you look less intelligent." its just a site i'm sorry if its not 100% to your liking but obvious you understand what the post is saying. Sorry to offend you if i did.

oh and p.s. you didnt spell punctuation right you spelled it wrong dose that make you less intelligent, to me no because you were probably writing it fast like i was with my thread. see how it feels when you say something like that to others.

I was trying to be nice..and you took it as being pompous! I feel sorry for you! :uhoh3:

I am in the same boat as you. My intention was to take a break for a year and go back for the RN but after realizing how bad the job market is for us I pass. I have no intention to spend more on school only to be in the same situation again a year later.

Where are you located?

I live in Canada - Ontario but, you could do a refresher course here that brings you back up to date on material but it all goes back to experience when looking for a new position but I thought once you have a career in nursing, even if you did take a year or 2 off, as long as you did a refresher course you could easily go back into the job market and get hired but i guess not as easy as it sounds

My advice is not to feed trolls; they thrive on getting a rise out of people.

Going back to school may or may not be the best decision. Depending on how long it will take, you have to consider if hiring is going to be any better when you are finished. Is it really worth the time and money just to reset the clock on your graduation date? Gaining employment is really tough for all new grads, even those with ADN, BSNs etc.

i do not know about canada, but this is definitely not true of all markets in the u.s. in some markets refresher courses do not negate the fact that one has not worked in the past however-many-years that is required.... in fact, some job markets i have seen require a particular number of years of experience in the last 1-2 years. if you do not have it and you apply, there is an exact question (filter question) that asks "have you worked in [fill in the blank] in the past 1-2 years?" or "do you have at least 1 year of experience in [fill in the blank] during the past year?" of course people who took off the past year or two have to put "no" and will be rejected. never mind the fact that he/she may have 10 years of experience in that area.

for example, i know of a former level-1 trauma nurse who had a hard time finding a job after taking a break to raise kids even though she had 10 years of experience prior to her break of more then two years. a refresher course did not get her a job in a tight market. she had to move away from her family to find a job and gain recent experience so that she could move back to her tight market to find a job. how crazy is that???
