Please: to anyone with the answer
a 58 y/o female pt. was in an auto accidentm transported by ems for open reduction c internal fixation of a fx of the r tibula and fibula and tansferring from pacu to thr orthopedic unit c a cast extending from above the knee to below the ankle. attention must be taken to avoid this inappropiate nursing action during th first 24 to 48 hours. should i: (a) handle the cast c the plams of the hand or (b) place the casted extremity in normal alignment, or © elevate the entire extremity, or (d) place rubber-covered pillows under the cast.
Thanx

The correct answer is (e) look it up in your textbook.

I was thinking A.
What is the rationale of it being E ? I remember reading in text books to never handle casts with the palms of the hand, always fingertips if absolutely necessary. Common sense tells me that the rubber pillows wouldn't be good either. :)

I made up answer (e). Answer (e) is to look it up in her book instead of people here figuring it out for her. She hijacked another person's thread with this question as well.
LOL, didn't notice that!!
Sorry if you think I hijacked, I am new to this I didn't know he way to do it the correct way, sorry if I have gave you trouble, or caused you inconvience to you. I do have 17 years nursing experience in the behavioral health field. And I to thought the right question is also (A) I just wanted to make sure, but next time I will use my text, thank you.
I guess I got the wrong idea about this allnurses.com deal. I the type of person that like to check, recheck, and double check, that is what I have been taught to do all of my nursing education and experience, and other nurse and doctors, that I have been accquainted with throughout my 17 years experience. Your instructors will aslo tell you when we teach others, we ourselfs are also learning....................................

Hi Linda
It isn't a case of not wanting to help but it is nice to know whether it is homework etc and what your thoughts are on the question being asked and then you usually find the membership respond a bit better (sometimes gets a bit frustrating seeing people ask for homework and not give any other information). Also helps if you are a student that you post in one of the Student forums

Wow people here can be so mean/rude at time. Well, based on what I have been reading in those threads especially the student ones its safe to say that half of you seem to only care about people who already have their nursing degree. I mean yeah it is your decision to decide if you want to help someone but at the same time if you don't have anything nice to say or in this particular thread if you don't want to give the answer why even bother? I know I might get roasted for this but in all honestly, I don't care. This website is a very pleasant place to find information but you people can be cruel.

the inappropriate nsg action would be b: place the casted extremity in normal alignment.
a- we're supposed to handle with palms of hands
c- we're supposed to elevate extremity
d- we're supposed to place pillows under cast.
the "rubber-covered" pillows, is a distractor.
so your answer would be b.
