Good day everyone! this is the first time that im writing in here.I hope you can help me with me queries. This is my situation.

I am a second courser nurse. My first degree is BS-Accountancy.Graduated nursing oct 2005 and have been working as an aicu nurse.I have my Nclex already but the US option is taking long so went to canada Ontario and already have paid for the cno assessment for both the rn and rpn.

I have read from some postings here that if one is a second courser there is a chance that one can be approved to take the CRNE. If this is the case how will the cno know that i am a second-courser nurse since they only required the transcript from my nursing school. They didnt require my BS Accountancy transcript.Another is in the forms that they gave for the assessment, there is none there that asks for information if i have other degrees or something like that. It might be that i only missed it so I hope you guys can help so that i can submit or add any documents that would let the cno know that i have another degree to qualify for the 16-year education.

Another question is with regards to my assessment for CRPN. Does my nclex have any bearing to it? \i mean will they let me take the crpn since i have this nclex? hope you guys can share some knowledge and experiences on this matter.thanks lots!!

Read all the information in the stickies.

NCLEX has no value in Canada. We are a separate and independent nation which does things in our way.

No idea what crpn is. Are asking about CRNE or CPNRE?

Only the provincial college can decide what to do with you

thanks much for the reply.any other inputs id highly appreciate..crpne i mean..thnks!!

I couldnt find the stickies that you meant specifically for second-course topic.im sorry but i hope you can specify it further.im sorry.thanks!

This thread has been moved to the International Forum. The average Canadain nurse has NO KNOWLEDGE of IEN-related issues (such as what a second-courser is), as has been explicitly explained in the stickies and in the banner at the top of the Canadian Nurses forum home page, which reads: "Posts pertaining to working in Canada and/or immigration or licensure questions specific for Canada, please post it under the International Forum". A little reading before you post is never a bad idea. As well, many Canadian nurses are becoming a little frustrated at hearing time and time again that "I couldn't get into the US so I"m coming to Canada". I expect that PNs are also becoming tired of hearing "I didn't meet the requirements to be an RN so I'm applying as a PN".

At one time the NCLEX-PN was accepted in place of the CRPNE in BC, but that is no longer the case. So the NCLEX is essentially useless in Canada. The exams have different foci, with the Canadian exams having more content on psychosocial and universal-health-care issues and a less of a pathophysiological perspective. (This information is also available in the stickies.)

As far as your degree in accountancy goes, I can't see how it would apply to a nursing career in any way, but the education itself could be viewed as an asset. Only the CNO can tell you how to have that part of your education assessed. Contact them on Monday.

The NCLEX is an American thing and means nothing in Canada as we are a different country.

The fact that you have a degree in another field will make no difference to the CNO, they are evaluating your nursing education. How are you planning on working in Canada once you get your licence? Do you have a visa to work here legally? Are you aware of the state of our economy and the scarcity of nursing jobs? You should read the threads concerning jobs on the Canadian forum.

This is a duplicate post. The OP is casting their net far and wide in the same forum.

There seems to be perception that second-coursers are more likely to be accepted by CNO but I cannot find any facts to support this. The CNO makes the decision by looking at the total years of education and by comparing an IENs education to a Canadian nurses education. Your best bet is to wait to hear from CNO, but if you are curious you can look at a university website and compare your education to an Ontario BScN education.

also you can use the search tool on all nurses to read about other IENs expereince with CNO.

thanks for all your reply guys...i am already here in toronto as immigrant so its too late to do the research bwt the work opportunities as im swayed by the agencies that talks all good things..sugar coating everything..im just thinking the cno wanted 16 years of education.around 12 for the primary and secondary and 4 in nursing or a total of 16.i thought my other degree would help increase my total years of education to 16 years.il just wait for the cno.thnk you much for all your inputs and if there is something more that you can add id gladly appreciate it..thanks much!!

I am curious, where does the idea that the CNO may give preference to an IEN with a second courser education come from? Is the idea coming from nursing schools in the Phillipines? recruitment agencies? allnurses forum? I have heard it from others and just wonder where the idea originates.

by the way i didnt just submit my nclex to cno for no reason at all.the cno form states that i put all my registration so i add there my nclex registration and spent money for the usa bon to sent my registration to cno.that is aside from my registration from the Philippines. if Canada, your country, which now happens to be my also my country, doesnt give meaning or has no value at all to my nclex, then why did the cno require me to submit that document to them?there must be a purpose for that for them..well, im just asking...thank you very much and if you have other inputs id be grateful for that..good day to all!!!
