Aren't you all banded under agenda for change?

It's not about the skills you have, your grading or banding is about what is required for the job - is your friend working to the same job description as you?

yes but does not do the same as us i get left to co-ordinate whereas she is not allowed to do the so why should us d grades be paid less than a less quallified e grade??

i am working way above my so called d grade (i know this doesn exist anymore really, but you know what i mean)

My appraisal is coming up, i have sort of put my progression at work on hold really, due to the possibility that i was going to the usa, now this probably not going to happen, so at my appraisal, any advice for how i address this and progress a bit further?

i only work nights, and i suppose im worried that my boss may say that working nights is different to days (quieter) but, i am in charge of all of my shifts etc,

any suggestions?

first off, good luck with the US progress. As for the appraisal, I guess it depends on the wording of your job description, the common D/E merging into Band 5 did no favors. The KSF section of AfC should help in theory. Most trusts usually have an in-house development program. Even if you don't benefit immediately it should help down the line as your employer has a responsibility to provide for your development, (if you adhere to it). This should allow progression through the gateways, (though you are probably at/through the upper one of Band 5).

So I guess make sure they are aware of what you do now, what you want to do & how they will provide you the opportunity ( & renumeration) for this. It should all be in a signed agreement. If this doesn't happen I guess it's a matter of

(a)finding another post, (little chance of that at the moment)

(b) Working at a level above your job description for no extra pay, ( sound familiar anyone?)

my manager asked me to do the teaching and assessing course, which i shall do anyway as lord knows when retrogression will get sorted.

i like my job, wouldnt leave unless the visa situation gets sorted, the ward is short of 'senior' nurses so that goes in my favour,

the E grades on my ward are currently going through an appeal to be banded as 6 so its worth chasing

i have the same problem as the OP, we advertised for band 5 nurses and employed a nurse from another ward who was an e grade, they retained him on the same level in the band 5 scales which means he gets paid more than me, hes no good at being in charge and doesnt have the renal training i have, when we work together i take charge, so really its all become a matter of principle for me (im a bit like that lol)

its like when they tried to increase the parking charges at the trust from £10 pa to £100pa, i wouldnt pay until they fixed the road (many, very deep potholes!)
