Help in finding RPN work within GTA (Ontario)|

Does anyone know a good place in specific that easily hires nurses with little experience? I am not a new grad but I have had a lot of trouble finding work.

Anyone in the same boat have any prcticasl ideas how to go about?

Should I volunteer at my local hospital 2-3 days a week? An for how long before they would consider me to work?

Right now it's not very easy to find nursing jobs, but it is possible. Apply to anything and everything (hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, retirement homes, hospice, home care, doctor's offices) even if it means sending out hundreds of applications. You have a better chance of getting hired if you apply for casual positions rather than regular part time and full time positions (but you can still make plenty of hours working casual). Good luck!!!!

Yes what kind of volunteering were you thinking of? It's not really a step towards getting hired. Unfortunately the GTA is flooded with new grads and there aren't a lot of jobs. You may have to look further north and be willing to move

I was advised by a few people that volunteering anywhere at a hospital will get your foot in the door to internal postings and is a step easier than being external applicant

Thanks I'll try

I got my job my specifically going to managers offices, introducing myself, and dropping off a resume. I actually got 3 interviews in the hospital this way. HOWEVER - I was lucky. Many other nurses on here have said that this approach would not fly in their hospitals. Managers are busy, and really dont have time to see you. I was just persistant, and happened to talk to a manager who appreciated this approach. Many managers will not appreciate this approach - but it worked for me.

Try looking for jobs in Hamilton Health Sciences. They have alot of jobs posted from the last time I checked on it. It took me 6mos before I got a call for an interview. Send as many applications as you can. Never did hurt to try.

Goodluck!

You continuously applied for 6 months? Or 6 months after applying you recieved an interview. Thank you

Continually applied for 6 months and got a call 6 months after. It will be frustrating but it pays to have faith. Try applying for those casual positions. Gets your foot on the door and start working up from there. Good luck!
