I am in my last semester at Glendale :chuckle I can't say it's easy going either! Out of our class of 30 , about 5 have flunked block 4 last semeter and it seems about a 1/4 of the class are flunking now after having two tests

My average is now a 79.5 :stone AND that is higher than the class average! 75% is an F. Geesh, it is the final attempt to weed people out that are not going to pass NCLEX on the first try. It kind of fries me that one of the instructors deliberately has obscure items from the text as test questions, another one says her questions are harder than Nclex - be careful how you read each question and "Nclex questions are too easy, mine are much harder". Sorry for the rant, but I feel much better now!

How is block 4 going in Tucson? Same tactics used?

Yeah, I remember talking to you about the summer student nurse externships-You did yours at St. Mary's right?

Mine was pretty painful-I found it difficult to swing my full time gig and the externship. I was constantly tired. I hated it. You only have 5 more weeks of classes right?? Congrats! :balloons: What hospital appeals to you?

Lu ann-I haven't found a lot of weeding out type teachers here. I think it is because PCC is so laid back. The teachers are nothing but supportive and helpful (well, most of them). Here, nothing ends up on a test that wasn't covered in lecture. They may only briefly cover it in lecture-but there are no suprises on the tests. I have found that for the most part-the people who failed out so far just weren't getting it. Sounds like the teachers in PHX aren't the same way.

Lu Ann,

I've heard some stuff about GCC. That they really try and get you in block 4. I've also heard the program is unorganized, is this true?

Anyway, I'm at SWSC and they treat us like babies, hold our hands through everything, and are unorganized as hell.

Hows your externship going? I can't wait till my block 2 is over (Mar) I'm going to apply at banner right away.

We don't really have the same setup down here it sounds like. Last semester we had 3 modules and this semester is mosty critical care stuff, and adding on to what we learned 2nd semester. I thought last semester (psych, ob, and peds) was a walk in the park compared to this semester. We just had the first exam and I heard that well over half of the class failed...the average was something like 72%. I was lucky enough to do better than the average but it was definitely one of the hardest tests I've taken. There were some questions that a lot thought were unfair, but it seems like that's been an issue since day one.

I just keep telling myself it's almost over!

Okay, now I'm getting worried. I just put GCC p/t program down as my first choice for spring. Is the pt program as hard during block 4 as the full-time? Do they use some of the same instructors? How many people have flunked out along the way? I've been doing really well in my pre-req's, but I know the tests are a lot different in NS.

I did the externship at TMC. I really liked it, but then again I didn't have a full time job in addition to it! Wow, I don't know how you did it!

Yep, only 5 more weeks of classes, thank God. I'm so ready for it to be over. I'm doing my preceptorship at TMC. I fiugre I might as well stay there...the majority of my clinical rotations have been there. Right now I'm at Northwest. All the nurses I've worked with have been awesome, but I live on the SE side of town and I hate the long drive!

Megan

I live in Gilbert and have completed my pre reqs at MCC.

Hopefully, I will be placed this Spring. I put down MCC and SCC for choices....

Has anyone heard anything about their programs?

I live on the SE side too! My hospital is on the other side of town that I work at now (but not NWH) so I completely understand hating the drive! :o I hear that NWH has a good critical course available. You say the RNs were nice? I haven't heard that. Got any advice on what to study for 4th semester?
