HCA Interview

Is there anyone that recently had an interview with an HCA facility for the new grad residency? Can you please share your experience and the type of questions that they asked? I have one coming up and I'm super nervous. This is my first interview as a new grad and I'm ready to nail the interview and start working.

Do you have any other possible employment possibilities? I've never worked for an HCA facility, but for years (on AN) I've read nothing but awful things about them...

I have a correctional interview as well. The pay for corrections is great the only problem is that it is far away from me so on days that I work I will either have to pay for cheap hotel or relocate altogether. As a new grad I do not have any experience besides clinical from school. When I interview I will ask them about the orientation process for a new grad. I want to make sure that they are not going to throw me to the wolves by myself. I saw those things on here too about HCA. Many people quitting before their contract is up. I did clinicals at a few HCA hospitals and it wasn't bad in my experience. But then again I wasn't privy to any unit politics going on. I'm in South Florida and the problem is a lot of the hospitals here are HCA and South Florida is super over saturated with new nurses.

I interviewed in Jan and start in the new grad nurse residency cohort very soon also in kinda south florida this area is very saturated you are so right. I applied to 22ish jobs since graduating 2 months ago and they were the only ones that gave me a call back. The interview wasnt bad. I didnt personally have any but a classmate of mine also applied to a different near mine HCA hospital for a residency slot didnt get the call back but she said she had a few patient situational questions so I'd brush up on those Youtube has a lot of good new grad interview tips.

I applied to a bunch of hospitals in south Florida but north Florida is the only places that are calling me back so far. The money that they are offering isn’t bad either. I really want a surgical unit residency so I hope the ones that I applied to call me back. But if I get the Med-Surg/Ortho position I‘ll take it.

Advent Health has a surgical residency job that was posted a few days ago I'd check that out!

I got the correctional job. This job is actually the highest paying out of all the residencies that I have been applying to, there is no contract and there is no on call. We just have the 3 12's and if we want to pick up an extra shift we can. I'm still going to go to the interview for the hospital just to see and experience the interview for a hospital setting. But something tells me that even if offered the ortho position that I'll take corrections. I applied to advent health and was supposed to do a video interview because I have a friend that works there and he told me his pay and it's crap. But if its a surgical unit I might take the pay cut since that is my dream to be an O.R nurse.

What did they end up asking

Honestly it was so long ago. This was a surgical unit so it'll be different than if you are applying to a med surg floor. But they asked the typical tell us about yourself, where do you see yourself in 5 years, what are your strengths/weakness, why do you want to work here? They didn't ask any scenario based questions, it was more questions to get to know you. I honestly just googled new grad interview questions and it helped.

Thankyou for the reply!! I almost wasn’t expecting it. I interview with them tomorrow. Did you end up getting it & do you like the program?

Unfortunately I didn't get it because of the covid pandemic, they cancelled non essential surgeries. I have gotten an offer for a med surg floor but turned it down and I'm currently doing corrections and I love it. You don't have to deal with the usual bull of the hospital. I'm still looking for an O.R position since that's my passion and the only thing I really want to do in nursing. I have some interviews coming up so I hope I get it.

I didn't even get to the interview stage before I decided it was a no go for me. While the recruiter from the hospital north of me was fantastic, I still have not spoken with the recruiter from south of me. I decided I wanted to go south (easier drive) and then covid happened and I have yet to hear from them (aside from the email that said we will contact you for an interview after covid settles down and they haven't contacted any of us). Regardless of what is going on, some sort of follow up at some point in time is warranted. If it was some other job I could see them not being back at work, but this is a hospital... not the way I want to start a career.
