Ok...so I failed Chemistry. And I'm really depressed about it. I mean, in all my other classes I did relatively good (except Stats, but most of the people in that class failed and we're almost 100% sure that had to do with the teacher, not the students) At my school, I heard Chemistry was one of the hardest classes to take there. I, obviously, need it for my nursing prereqs but right now I'm just so bummed about. It's my first year in College and the fact that I'm not doing so well makes me want to reconsider what major I'm going into.
Any advice?

I've gotten a D in general chemistry and that was considered passing to the school, but it was failing to me. I was so upset, but I just retook it and passed the next time. I went into it thinking omgsh chem is so hard, blah blah, and completely psyched myself out, and I think that was my problem from the beginning. I set myself up for failure. All I can tell you to do is to retake it, and have a different approach next time. Even though it was a setback for me, I never considered changing my major behind a bad grade. You'll be fine.

Try not to dwell on it. Take a couple of days to relax, and then re-register for it. Just take it again and "know" that you will do well. Give it all that you have, commit yourself to master the class-think positively!

I've never failed a class (I've never even gotten a C) but I would rather get an F than a C, because an F you can retake for a B or A, a C stays (at least at the two institutions I've been at). I believe at my 4-yr university if you retook it the next semester they would take the failed course off the transcript and the new grade would stand but you only had one shot at it. So consider it a blessing that you CAN retake it and that you have some knowlege of the subject matter which will make it that much easier when you go through it again. I know it's a drag, I absolutely hated College Algebra this past semester and was freaking out because I was borderline C/B (ended up having to ace my last exam to get the B which I did by the skin of my nose) and could not IMAGINE having to take such a horrid class again. Hopefully you don't dread retaking Chemistry as much.

when you retake chem make sure you do grade replacement!!!!!
thats odd. the last two posts meaning that ive never heard of that. one said if you get an a, b, c it stays, and the other says do grade replacement? at my school you can retake anything nothing stays, and its automatically replaced. it just shows you how different every school is. i wonder why you have to request for a grade replacement, and i wonder why adams mommy's school leaves the grade. maybe im getting it wrong. do explain.

Every school is different. Here you can retake any course for a better grade only 1 time per class. Although, your original grade will stay on your transcripts where as the grade you get the 2nd time is used for determining whether or not your in the program.

I failed a class...it was a math class back in the Fall of 2004 when i was first starting school for nursing. LOL...i still remember how bad i felt! But you know what...i registered for it again in the spring with a different teacher and nailed it! of course it helps when you see the material twice But thats not my point...my point is i dusted myself off and got right back into it...and I graduated last weekend with my Bachelors in Nursing! don't give up and don't let it happen again...refocus!

I failed English 102 in 2007 because I ceased showing up to class due to various life interferences. It was my mistake for not dropping for a W that semester (like i did with my other classes). Every other grade I've received is an A (except for 1 C which is another story). I'm actually very worried about said F because of my plans for the future. I might try to see if there's something or anything the former school will let me do, but i doubt it.

Be upset but don't let it get you down for to long, brush yourself off and take it again. You already have a huge advantage begin that you took it before.
I have retaken a class again just to get a better grade and because I didn't really feel like I had a good understanding of it. At my school the class will remain on your official transcripts but it won't be used for you GPA and it will show it was retaken, the adviser said it doesn't effect a thing but they have to keep records of everything, especially when you are paying for school.
So if I go look at my unofficial transcripts at my current school it will show I retook Microbiology, I got a C the first time. Only the second time is counted in my GPA.
For my transcripts that were transferred in though, they only transferred in the retake and it doesn't show anything about it being retaken, only on that schools transcripts. If that makes sense.
Anyway, I wouldn't beat myself up over it. Chemistry isn't the easiest of classes, it isn't as if you failed some easy bs class.
BTW if you are getting financial aide at all you might run into a problem since they usually require a C or above, BUT if you run into a problem talk to your advisers at school, usually it's not hard to get a "warning" if you can tell them a cause, whether it be first time stress, home stuff or whatever. I think they just want you to acknowledge where the problem lies so you can better handle it next time. My friend just told them her husband was making her life miserable at home because he didn't want her back in school and they allowed her to keep her grants and put her on academic probation until the next semester.
