Harsh nurses

Posted

What is up with having to be a ***** to get respect as a nurse or a student nurse? Honestly during school the teachers are the biggest scum bags on planet earth. I dont know why I even wanna go back to redo my last semester.. yes I failed because a big shot clinincal instructor has that sort of power no matter how hard working and safe you are. I mean surprisingly on the floor I only met two evil nurses and the rest were excellent... no problems w pts. All of them we amazing even the one who threw a washcloth at me. Lol.. but really its the instructors! Arent they the ones not able to work floor anyways? Its obvious cuz they make half as instructors. Gosh I cant get over it. If I dont do something about it I will literally explode

Have you tried reflecting on what YOU did wrong. Everday here students pist about how its anyone but their own fault for why they failed. I'm some legitimately had no fault and the instructor was just a jerk, but more often then no, the student played a role in their clinical failure. And no, instructors are not bedside nurse has beens. Most have years of experience in actual nursing roles, then chose to go back to school to become educators. They are on you like white on rice because you are the next generation that will be caring for their sick family members and themselves. At my school, the instructors are required to work at least PRN with a couple shifts a month to ensure they are staying current and teaching current practice. Without knowing your whole situation myself and others can't just jump in the hatefest that you are having about your instructors. Take a deep loom at yourself, own up to why YOU failed, and then work to change it.

Just a wild guess here, but I think maybe your failure had to do with more than the "power of a big shot clinical instructor." I understand you may not be happy but flinging general insults at all clinical instructors, especially on this forum, will likely not get you sympathy.

I'm sorry you were only able to meet two evil nurses on the floor. Most nurses pride themselves in being evil and intimidating students. I hope you have a better clinical experience next time.

Um, what? Several of my clinical instructors "work the floor", as well as work as instructors. They also are right there to assist in any situation (Need an extra set of hands for a pt. who is total assist and needs a bath? Our instructor is right there.) And they're not "half-ass"...they're kick-ass. I have nothing but respect for all of them.

Wonder how long it will take for this one to be shut down...I have extra butter. ;)

First off I did ask her what she was expecting from me. She told me and I understood. Then she lied to program manager and course coordinator. She didnt document her lie tho jist to keep her ass covered.

I will not give out that information too but I have all my classmates and nurses as witnesses on my side. Not gonna bother fighting her over it I figured she will get bitten in the ass. Reap what you sow

I'm sure attitude was never an issue either ;)

First off I did ask her what she was expecting from me. She told me and I understood. Then she lied to program manager and course coordinator. She didnt document her lie tho just to keep her ass covered. I wonder why I wasnt kicked off to the floor and sent to the lab if I was that unsafe. Plus told me I was still going to fail but still could show up last week of clinicals? If I was charting she would tell me to stop slam her arm on top of my hand and chart for me. Whatever judge all you want guys

Umm I didnt say half ass I said they make half as much as a nurse but worded it wrong.

Okay, so what does how much they make have to do with anything? Especially in relation to your post?

Their salary is irrelevant. However, they are generally paid more, at least per hour. Oh, and they are still nurses just working in a different capacity

Goodness. Between this thread and the return of 28studentsfailed, I'm nearly out of popcorn.

OP, I'd give you constructive advice, but I sense you'd only resent it. What exactly do you want from this thread anyway?

According to the previous thread on the same topic, this student asked said instructor to help him/her remember some medical term and also to remind him/her of a patient's diagnosis. Maybe the instructor felt the student nurse was unsafe because s/he didn't know their patient's diagnosis? And depending what medical term s/he asked for help remembering, perhaps the instructor felt the student hadn't absorbed sufficient information to safely practice at clinicals.

I think OP is just looking for ego support and for all of us to go, "Yeah, all nurses are *******TOS!" Wonder if that will still apply once OP becomes a nurse?

No worries on the popcorn...I got extra. ;)

I only got one word of sage advice for the OP: WOOSAH.

I have a big bag of Twizzlers I can share ;-). What's with the disgruntled failed student posts lately? It's always the instructor's fault!

Maybe this is the same OP as student28...or at least related in some way. Idk but it's déjà vu for me.
