I am going to be switching to three 12-hour shifts at my hospital (7p-7a) I am looking for a "fun", low stress, part-time job, maybe once or twice a week. I want something that has nothing to do with the typical hospital environment. I was thinking of maybe working in a wellness center or something along those lines. I just was wondering what is out there. Anyone know of any interesting non-hospital ways to work as a nurse? Thanks!!:)

Wow, you might want to hold off til you've done the 12's for a while, you'd be surprised how much they can take out of you!
But if you insist, what was your most fun clinical? Maybe try that?

I agree, 3 12's might not seem like full-time work, but believe me, it is! I thought the same thing too, "what am I going to do with all my free-time?" But, working nights ESPECIALLY, you spend all your days off catching up on sleep, for each night you work you need at LEAST a 1/2 day of sleep that's another 3 days right there.....if you're wanting extra money, I'd see about picking up extra shifts, otherwise, enjoy your time off!

Maybe try home health? Where I work the hours are very flexible, and the one-on-one care will probably be a breath of fresh air after working in the hospital. Just an idea. Tonya

be a Barista at Starbucks. I always say that is what I will do when I grow up. Love the smell/feel of the place....and most the customers are "regulars" like at Cheers!

If you decide to do something totally different out side of healthcare----I had a buddy that had a 3-12hr schedule at the hospital, then worked 2 days a week at Pottery Barn when she was re-decorating her home. She got a killer discount!!!

I agree with an earlier post, look outside of nursing for the extra job. Think of your hobbies and interests, look for something that will give you a whole new experience. If I can manage it, I want to work for a place like Garden Ridge, Home Depot, or Lowes. I love that sort of thing and want to do some decorating, that discount really helps. Don't forget Walmart, maybe as a stocker. Money may not be as good but lower stress is not often paid highly. Whatever you decide, I hope the new schedule allows you to do whatever you want to do.
