Does anyone know anyone that got kicked out of any nursing program? How do they deal with it?
I'm so afraid of getting kicked out of the program right now due to low GPA. & this is only my first semester. I don't understand why I've been studying days and nights and I still don't do well on tests. I even went to get help on tests taking, how to study effectively... and I've tried the methods that they suggested, and I had a good feeling that I understood the materials, yet, I still don't do well on tests.
I'm so frustrated right now because if I were to get kicked out, I don't know if I'm ever going to get the motivation to go back to school again. And I moved from all the way across the country, and I pulled out so much loans, that I don't know how I'm going to handle emotional stress if I were to get kicked out T___T !

Before you get all stressed out...Did they SAY that you were on your way out of the program? The best thing to do would be to review the nursing program handbook of your school. ALL of the basics & specifics such as this is in there. When you say that you don't know if you'll ever get the motivation to go back to school or you don't know how you're going to handle the emotional stress of getting kicked out-it sounds like you've already convinced yourself of this... Getting so overwhelmed over things isn't good for you... take a moent to put things into perspective. I would review the handbook & then go & speak to your advisor or Chair of the program...

I have never been kicked out of nursing college because of GPA but I feel your pain. Maybe, you need to record your lecture and go over your notes especially your nursing interventions. Nursing college can be very overwhelming but you will survive.

My friend did and it was not pretty at all.
Well the policy is that if you fail a class twice or fail two classes, you are out of the program. I'm doing well in all classes except for one class,.. and I'm not failing that class.. YET. I'm at the edge, but I just have sooo much anxiety right now b/c I'm just not used to getting such a low score on tests... X(
I did. I listened to it, I wrote it down (almost word to word), read it, listened to it at night.... went to review sessions... pulled an all nighter the night before the test... I'm giving it 110% of all I have... =(

Poor kiddo- been there; done that:(. I failed @ end of second semester. I thought it was the end of the world - I failed pharmacology. It was tough. My mom invented tough love (LOL)she told me to get off my ass and get a job. I did - at a very nice nursing home; found that I genuinely had a calling to the sisterhood and took myself to another school and started over. Some years later I took a couple grad courses in pharm, just for giggles. All these years later, I'm glad I did it. Motivate thyself! You'll be glad. Set a hook in some part of your failure. May the force be with you. I'm praying.

I'd almost recommend not pulling an all-nighter the night before a test, because that will just making your brain fuzzy. Study every day like you have a quiz tomorrow - pulling all-nighters ("cramming") is ineffective. A full-night's sleep will do you much better. Good luck! I'll pray for you as well!

You write that you study, read, etc the material. My question is do you actually understand the material you're studying? Are you able to apply it to real life situations or are you trying to memorize too much? The key to understanding medical knowledge is to rationalize what you're learning to a given situation, not simply regurgitating it. Try studying with someone who can quiz you on the material. It's a good way to get away from your notes and determine if you truly understand something. It took me nearly 2.5 semesters to finally realize that.
And yes, no more all nighters. The brain does not work when it's tired.

Which class are you having trouble with? Need to know that to offer guidance.

have you ever been tested for a learning disability? I'm slighly dyslexic and it wasn't discovered until I was an adult, I got help with my learning skills and reading comprehension... and after that I about aced everything! Dyslexia covers a multitude of things so you could still function but not near as well without some help.
hm... never thought of that... but what are other learning disabilities out there besides dyslexic?. I realized that I have a really short attention span. I mean, even with someone talking face to face to me, I can only pay attention to half of what they're saying (even if it's only a 10 min conversation) I would stare at something for 10 min (for example, the textbook) and not knowing what I'm reading....I never feel like this before though. I passed all my undergrad science classes with flying colors.... not until recently that I experienced this. I've been thinking it could've been depression, or maybe adjusting to a new place, that my neuros are not functioning properly. =( My sister is sending me Lucidal. I hope that would help. I'm having trouble forming words as well (& this is also another problem that I never had before).. like I have the ideas, but the words are not coming out of my mouth.....well this is not a new problem, I've been like this ever since dad passed away.

Wow, I'm a new member here, and I found this place to be such a helpful place to help me with school. I'm very thankful! Extremely thankful. Thanks y'all!!!
You can google Learning Disabilities and Dyslexia there are various degrees and different types of disabilities, I was recently made aware by a cousin that Dyslexia runs in families. We've looked at our fathers, grandpaw and gr grandpaw all were brilliant people and made good livings but had difficult time writing and reading. I would suggest taking the time to get evaluated.
