Future FNP Program Student!

I am a future FNP program student. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to secure clinical placements. I have no contacts, which seems like a disadvantage compared to most on allnurses.

(I am from the Kansas City, MO area, so if anyone knows of any clinical preceptors, that would be helpful.)

Any information would be beneficial to me,

    My school pairs me up with a clinical coordinator. They secure it for us.

    School is stressful enough I couldn't imagine having a deadline to find preceptors and basically begging them to take me in.

    Join your state's NP organization and network there. A lot of schools including brick and mortar are moving toward having students find their own preceptors so don't let that be a deal breaker for you. Just set up your clinical sites early and have a back up. Also, ask your own provider if they would be willing to precept you. My program required at least two NP preceptors out of four so it depends on your requirements. As a profession we are supposed to mentor as we all were when becoming RN's. There should not be as big of a problem as it is for students to find preceptors.

    I disagree -- I believe there is a big difference between "mentoring" and doing schools' jobs for them. In my original diploma program, my B&M BSN completion program, and my graduate program, my clinical experiences were provided by the school and taught by school faculty. I was not expected to go begging for clinical instruction (and the school monitored and took responsibility for the quality of clinical instruction I was receiving). I think this system is hurting individual students and hurting nursing as a whole. We should be resisting this and demanding better, not swapping tips on how to cope with it.

    Both Georgetown & Yale are online and secure preceptors. The cost is very high, though: $86K for Georgetown, $98K for Yale. Michigan State University does all didactics online, but you have to live in or near MI to get placed in clinicals.

    Since when does Yale offer an online NP program? They have a post-Master's DNP that is a hybrid prgoram (part online, part on-campus), but I'm not aware of any advanced practice degrees being offered online (and I don't see anything on their website that suggests they do).

    Yale offers PA program online (didactic fully online). Students have to attend synchronous live online classes, which I think should be a basic requirement for all online nursing programs. It does guarantee clinical placements, but students might have to travel far away or move closer to CT. Total tuition alone is north of $100k though.

    Yes, I'm aware of that, but the topic of discussion was nurse practitioner programs. PA is an entirely different kettle of fish. I was asking about Yale offering online NP programs (or any advanced practice nursing program).

    Please forgive me. Night shift RN here posting in the wee hours of the morning with brain fog. I forgot to stipulate that Yale has 100% online PA program. Yes, I do know the difference between NP & PA. Just trying to offer up suggestions since the OP wanted online programs that place you in clinicals. When I looked into the online PA program, the info they e-mailed me stated it was $98K tuition (not counting fees, books, supplies, etc.. I'm sure it's well over that $100k mark).

    I'm not sure that they do as I did my clinicals with a couple Yale students here in CT and they were full time B&M students.
