I realize that some nurses have gone to become a Physician Assistant
but has anyone here or anyone aware of a RPA that has become an RN ?
Thanks

No, never heard of it. I can't imagine anyone wanting to do it. Go back to school to come out with less money and worse working conditions....nope, can't imagine it. You'd have to be totally in love with the nursing model vs. the medical model, I suppose.

I love nursing, but the only reason I could possibly see for such a venture would be to pursue something like nurse anesthesia. Even then, it would be good to look into direct-entry CRNA programs I'd think.

ahem. I know someone who went that route- moi. Specifically to become a CNM as there are only rare routes to catching babies as a PA. Went into a BSN/MSN program (to go back to school and spend that $ I wanted a degree, not just an RN although I was accepted to some fabulous programs that don't award a BSN (RN/MSN) ). It's a very interesting journey and I'd be happy to share - but not be flamed nor to anyway lend support to the "vs" battle, please.

I can't imagine why anyone would want to step down like that from midlevel provider. I think most PA's and NP's enjoy their jobs. I have known a NP who went back to working as an RN because she couldn't find a job as a NP, but it wasn't something she was happy about ya know?

I know a PA that was also an RN. She worked with an Ortho Surgeon. She quit her job in Ortho to become a "House Supervisor" in a hospital because, according to her, the money was better!!

I'm sure there are people in this world who have gone from RN to PA and found they did not like PA and went back to RN and then on from there to maybe NP or CRNA, CNM etc... It happens

I did it. I was thinking about CRNA. Still am. Besides, I think it makes a better provider.

the op did not specify what field of nursing, just the "rn." therefore, the term rn does not necessarily mean floor nursing or staff nursing.
what exactly did marc mean "become an rn?"
i am an rn and have not been a staff or floor nurse in eons.

Yes. There are more job oportunites for RNs so if you want to move to an area with no market for PAs or want to enjoy the flexability of working agency or have more upward mobility in a larger pool it might make sense.Spend as little time and money as posible on it. If you have a bachlors degree in something you can do a sortcut program to a BSN or MSN with some accelerated programs.
