I'm a nursing student in my first semester. I'm currently taking pharmacology and pathophysiology. One of my college roommates is a criminal justice major, and the other still hasn't decided a major. They're constantly telling me "you study too much," or "it can't be that bad" or "you're always in the library!" or (MY PERSONAL FAVORITE) "ha you think your classes are hard? French 5 is worse." (Let me add that her other classes are religion and Intro to psyc)
Are you kidding me? ðŸ˜
I feel like they're trying to make me feel like nursing is no big deal and anyone can do it. I don't think they get just how much work it is. And that no matter how many hours you put in studying each day, it's still not enough. Especially since I'm taking patho and pharm together right now, god it's a nightmare.
It just bothers me that they act like I'm making nursing school seem harder than it actually is, when in reality, I don't study nearly as much as I wish I did.

Just laugh it off and do what you need to do. No one will understand the craziness of the studying unless they are doing it themselves. Trust me. No other major, family member, friend, etc will get it - regardless of how you explain it.
You know what they WILL get? When you're all done and have RN behind your name and got a good job.

Those are what I call outsiders. They will never understand so its best to keep your head in the game and focus.

don't waste your energy trying to explain. they have no clue. And they won't be there when you take NCLEX

My daughter just tells her roomies to shut up. The semester is almost done, hope you found a new roomie for next year.

Nobody understands and nobody will be there to take your NCLEX. Don't give it a second thought. I don't know about you but our semester is over in 2 weeks. Just keep chugging until the end.

Keep running your own race; switch roomies for next year and keep it moving; you need to be able to have the energy to do your best, not justifying why your classes are harder than those allegedly hard classes. :)

Ignore them. Nursing school is something entirely different from anything anyone else does. I know how you feel. I wish I had time to study more but I'm already hearing people around me in disbelief that I couldn't possibly study more. Whatevs. They'll never know how much work nursing school really is.

Yea maybe you can get other nursing students for roommates next year .
Thank you for the kind words :) it really helped cheer me up a bit. Only we know how hard this is, they never will.
I'm living with the criminal justice major again next year (she's less annoying about it), so I'll figure out how to deal with that when the time comes. The girl that's really bothering me (French is harder!) I'm not living with, thank god, not to be rude but I can't handle being around her anymore. My other roommate is also a criminal justice major, but she took anatomy so she has a better understanding of the level of difficulty.. Even though pharm and patho are a whole different scenario than anatomy!

With friends/room mates like that, you sure don't need any enemies.
It's time to try a healthy dose of limit setting. You will be happier in a more supportive crowd of people.

Just completed my last class of this semester which included Nursing Fundamentals/Clinical ,Pathophysiology and Pharmacology. I feel you. I always felt like I was cramming before tests even though I had studied for at least 345 hours in the few days prior. At some point people just left me alone because they knew if I have ANY free time(I don't) it was used to study. The amount of information we have to recall, comprehend and apply for the rest of our career is just obscene. Nobody gets it unless they are knee deep in care plans, adverse drug effects for fifty million drugs and the defining characteristics of about 400 separate diseases all of which include nausea/vomiting/headache :)
