I keep hearing there is "tons" of money out there for nursing students. That there are companies out there that just have money sitting in accounts for the right students. Umm..where? I've looked and everything either seems like fraud or it's for hispanics, native americans, or african americans.:yldhdbng:
I'm a poor, SMART, white, 1st generation college student and I need some help! haha..
I just found out from my school that they don't qaulify for financial aid because they are a vocational school..? I don't see the difference.. if the student doesn't have money for school..well, they don't have money for school..
any ideas would greatly appreciated...THANK YOU! :heartbeat

Do you have a job?? Sometimes schools will work out a payment plan for you.
Or what about personal loans??

Oh, I know how you feel! I've been told that I no longer qualify for any federal or state funds becuase I've had too many credits. SO...even though the state and us gov't are willing to send the school money for my classes, the school says they're going to send them back, because i've gone to school too long.
I have yet to find something to help out.

Tell me about it!
I'm a returning learner, have kids, have a 3.2 GPA, ACT cumulative in the 30's. And I can't find squat for scholarships. Luckily my facility does tuition prepayment, but I was hoping to find scholarships to supplement so that I wouldn't have to work OT to make ends meet while I'm in school. I'm screwed once clinicals start in a year.
My little sis just graduated a Master's program for speech therapy...she also had ACT in the 30's, with a high enough GPA to graduate both undergrad and graduate cum laude, and she had to max out loans to make it at a state school in a rural area with a low cost of living.

i personally cannot get any scholarship despite being poor and african american. i know people think that if you are a good student and you are poor and you are a person of color that you are golden. this is not true! there is a lot of competition and not enough money to go around. thus, i have not gotten a single scholarship to put myself through school and i applied for many! on the other hand, i qualify for a scholarship through my employers (which i choose not to use at this time).
there are scholarships for employees of hospitals or facilities. there are also scholarships through not-for-profit organizations to include nursing organizations that focus on economic need. if you cannot land any of those, then do what many of us do: work (i have two jobs), save, and attend a not so expensive school (my adn has cost me no more then $5000 for my entire degree and additional expenses). gl!

Yea also you should check with your local hospitals. A lot of hospitals will pay for your school as long as you sign a contract to work for them for 2 years....

How can you have too many credits to get government assisted student loans? (Stafford). I know there are financial caps, but did not realize their were credit hour caps. Is that just at your institution. That's difficult to believe because plenty of people have two, three bachelor's degrees.

Have you checked into WIA in your state? Our is through the unemployment office. They cover tuition, books, and supplies for most of the people at our school.
Hope that helps.
