failed nclex twice..what should i do?

Published

I graduated in may..took time off before i took the nclex..and then waited several months after that to try again..and I continue to fail.. I feel confident in what I know..i just have severe anxiety and can't seem to find practice questions that resemble those on the nclex.. any help or information on how to study or on what to do would be great! been considering taking a review class.. what do you think?

Pick yourdself up, dust yourself off, and take a few weeks to relax and have a break. I dont know how you studied for the test, so its hard to make suggestions. How long did you study, how many practice questions did you do, any review course? Just dont give up.

I've went through several review books.. bought med books.. went through review CDs..and the ones I missed I would bookmark and write the rationale out and study.. I always feel prepared..but I've done terrible on the test..but I was always a bad test taker in nursing school.. so I dont know.. we took the evolve review course right before graduation..but it was terrible.. almost the entire class requested money back and no one was happy with it.. so I was considering the hurst or kaplan review? any sugguestions would be great! just let me know! i'm starting to feel hopeless! :/

I would take a review class that covers not only material but also test taking strategies. It seems like that (taking knowledge and using it to pick the NCLEX answer) is your issue perhaps? There are techniques and strategies and being familiar with what kinds of questions the test asks you can help you approach new test questions with drugs and issues you've never had experience with before.

Moved to the NCLEX forum to encourage responses. Good luck!

Continue to study. Don't give up. A review class might be a good idea. Best wishes.

I agree with most people here, take a week off to relax, then register for a review course like NCSBN online review course, which cost 49 buck for 3 weeks. As long as you don't quit, then you still have a chance to pass this test.

I think you should practices some relaxation techniques to do during your test. Like deep breathing, think positive no matter what it feels like when you're testing. Just keep saying to yourself you're doing great. I think you know the material, just focus more on your weakness and relaxing more. Also talk to your doctor about your anxiety. Pray and fast, good luck blessings!

thanks everyone. I really think the anxiety is a big part of it.. anxiety of being a grown up and real nurse even tho it excites me all at the same time.

You only have to pass it once! Take a review course that trached test strategies and buy the Kaplan test strategy book on half.com. You only have to pass this test once, just get through it!

Take the review--Google Excell Nursing Review: I took it and passed the first time at 75Q and of course I went over the notes at 4 times and and spend 4-8 hr/day for two wks!! This review cover all the contents that you need to know for the nclex!! Kaplan review is suck!!! they only go over different types of questions unless you already know the contents very very well!! Kaplan wont teach you any thing!!! Hope this help!!

Donovan, as everyone stated, take a break and find a different approach. What area/s do you need help with? If you go from there, you should be able to do OK on the next time. I have taken mine twice but I did much better the 2nd time around. I am now in the process of studying again for 3rd time testing and of course I will be focusing on content and making flash cards faithfylly. I hope to test in March and I know that it is devastating but we are all here for each other - we've been there with you
